When will doug walters be finished or open?

i think we might desperately need it for next year to have 47,000-50,000 seats so we can host all our games there including finals.

no more anz. let the rl teams have their games there and slowly die.

How long are we contracted to play games at ANZ for? I'd love for all games to be played at the revamped SCG. 45-50k capacity is more than enough, with the possible exception of the annual Pies fixture. We play the dimensions better than we play ANZ, it's where they train, the spiritual home, more atmosphere (etc). A damn shame that we're going to be sitting in a mostly empty, soulless stadium this weekend :o

I totally agree with you Adam. Each year it's getting worse to play out at ANZ. Maybe when the new Sydney team starts up we can drop the ANZ contract.

Hard to disagree with the notion that finals are better at the SCG. Who knows what may have happened had the Geelong SF been played out west? The club have to look at the contract and make future finals decisions based on the opponent. If we were playing one of the big Vic clubs there is no doubt the SCG could not hold the expected crowd. Unfortunately we're playing one of the smaller ones.

There is actually an agreement in place with Stad Oz that the SCG capacity is capped at 47K until some date in the future. I have a theory that this is why the Swans got an extra couple of metres length on the playing surface this year - so that the new stand did not increase the capacity to over the cap. I also read somewhere that the SCG Trust has plans to continue the stand replacement programme once the agreement is expired.

I'm hoping that they'll move all games back to Moore Park once the WS18 enters the comp. I'm finding it harder and harder each year to justify paying my SCG membership :(

Yep, it is pretty obvious they will get rid of the O'Reilly or at least change it, as the new stand has restricted veiws in the top corner as it is taller than O'reilly.

I cant imagine they would have done that without future plans to build a new stand from the Bradman all the way round to the new hill stand.

Apparently in December - renamed the Victor Trumper stand.

Agree with everyone who said the SCG is awesome and ANZ is rubbish.

believe it or not, teams make more money playing in front of 5,000 at ANZ than they do playing in front of 20,000 at their suburban home ground. go figure.

I reckon you are right.

This bit is interesting though..
“The Trust proposes to build a grandstand on the old Hill which will replace the Doug Walters Stand and fill the void between the Churchill and O’Reilly Stands,” said Mr Cavalier. “Its roof will be the same height as the present stand roofs and the proposed new grandstand will improve spectator facilities.”.

I love the SCG but i think that the redevelopment has not being done as good as it could be. From the churchill stand, that new screen opposite it in the messenger is not that great to look at. It is really small and most of it is surrounded be advertising. The new stand looks great and it would be awesome if it could be extended to encompass the oriely, messenger, bradman and noble stands. The ground would be so much better with these modern stands with the traditional ladies and members stands as well.
