I thought a good idea for a thread would be to tell stories of when you've interacted with the players. Here's my story....

A few years ago now, i was working at a conference center in the Yarra Valley. The owner of the complex was Bill Balcum, who used to be on the MFC board. He must have given a discount to them coz one off season the team came for a 3 day 2 night conference. Some of the MFC people that came were Shane Woewoddin, David Neitz, Anrew Leoncelli, David Schwarz, Neal Daniher, Jim Stynes, Stephen Newport and many other ex players and administration to remember. There were about 45 in all.

Do you know how hard it is to concentrate on your job when you look out the kitchen window and David Nietz is playing kick to kick with David Schwarz?...it's damn ****in hard. There where so many different things that happened over the 3 days but the best was this. On the last night of the conference the kitchen was told it was David Neitz's birthday and to get him a cake. After dinner had finished, the lights were lowered and i brought the cake out. As i walked out it dawned on me who was in the room and i was shitting myself i was gonna drop it. The room started singing "happy birthday dear skipper", and i put the cake down in front of him. It was a great few days. Never forget it.

Any other stories?

I met Jimmy Stynes at my first communion because he was dating the aunty of one of my friends who was there too. He signed my copy of his book 'whatever it takes', and he picked me up as well. I tell ya, it was a fair way up.

Heres a couple, was out one night when i was 18 and saw david netiz at the bar knocking back a few VB's and he dropped his phone and it smashed apart and i was the guy who went over an took his battery back to him that had somehow landed near my foot, he shock my hand and said thanks.

Was out again at the start of this year (i am a party animal hehe) and was at the same pub as cam bruce where he was ending his bucks night had a chat to him at the bar he was pretty gased and i had a photo with him nice guy.

saw t.j and sauce at the races a few times now in the bookie rings but that is no suprise! last year about this time ward was at the geelong cup all by himself!! lmao

In about 98 all the melbourne players played a round of golf down here at ocean grove, they were fantasic signing stuff for all the kids at the golf club.

JIMMY STYNES CAME TO MY SCHOOL FOR A CONFERENCE TO TALK ABOUT EMOTIONS and crAP AND HE MADE EVERYBODY CRY IT WAS HILARIOUS!!!!:(

I've met brent moloney few times and been boxing with him... i didnt get into the ring with him of course... Nut job

I remember a few years back in one of my old haunts in Tassie and Neita was there and I was too nervous to talk to the great man so my mate went up to him and said "my mate is a mad Dees supporter, come over and talk to him" AND HE DID! Great bloke, shoook hands with me and spent a couple of minutes chatting with us, will never forget how wide he was accross the shoulders:thumbsu:

i was at the ovens and murray grand final in 2001 when i saw Guy Rigoni and troy simmonds having a few VBs. was so scared to talk to them so i asked troy for the time and he kindly gave me the answer.. i cried!

yeh man of course

He's an ordinary bloke. Always has been.

I've come across a few players but the only time I made an effort to talk to them was back in 1996, got my footy signed by Alistair Clarkson down in the rooms. I can't stand people that go up to them and chat with them and all that jazz. Get over it, they just play footy.

Mate i have numerous mates that play afl footy. Most people treat them as normal people unless u are alot younger and want their autograh or something. When i talk to them we usually dont talk bout footy.

Was having some dinner in St.Kilda after the Caulfield Cup on Saturday and who else was at the table next to us but the great man David Neitz. Didn't wan't to disturb him though as it would be fairly annoying getting stopped my supporters. Anyway i think he may have had a touch of intergestion as he spent half the time i was there in the shitter.

Then went across the road to the Saint to kick on. To my surprise the entire Dees backline for 2008 was there in Rivers, Miller and Caroll. As i was with Shane Valenti he introduced me to the boys and i must say they were top blokes. Had a fair chat with nathan, even had a jager with him. He said just enjoying his last few nights of freedom and is 100% off the grog once the season starts.

I always remembered Wowie as a top bloke. He came acrosss as a bit shy and I don't know if he really liked the whole Brownlow attention thing.

Heres a good jared rivers story for ya....

Few years back, i think 3 years ago, i was at veludo in st kilda celebrating my birthday. Was at the bar having a few drinks, Melbourne were playing Adelaide that night and my girlfriend at the time asked me "who do you think won the game tonight?". Right at the moment i see the man jared rivers walk thru the door and i say "hey theres jared rivers, why dont you ask him?". Great timing. He came to the bar, we had won told us all about, said neita had a great game. Had a good chat to him, said it was my birthday and he agreed to take this photo with me:

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/tachism/DSC00450-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Anyways the night progressed on. my girlfriend was sitting on a couch and jared was sitting behind her, i could see her checking her out and i just watched. Eventually he tapped her on the shoulder and he turned around and saw me and realised it was my girlfriend and he was so apologetic, and he even introduced me to brad miller (i was pretty happy back then cuz he was pretty good at that time). No hard feelings. TOP BLOKE!

Fast forward a few years...

I was the resident DJ at the last lap @ qbh which was the official after party for the commonwealth games, which was mainly a footy player hang out, as it was the last weeks before the season. No one was allowed up on the stage so if people wanted a song they would tell the security guard. I saw Jared rivers up in line and i told the security guard to let him up. He was blind drunk with his arm in a sling, and im like haha man im a dees supporter blah blah blah. I ripped out my mobile and showed him the photo of us, he pissed himself and we started hugging haha. Later on my mates said, "was i complete out of it or where you hugging jared rivers up onstage?". I asked him what song he wanted and he wanted "i wanna dance with somebody" by whitney houston, to which i promptly denied, saying " i love you man, but that shit house mate!"

He was pretty much the last guy around that night, and i saw him outside flinging around road construction signs with a broken arm.

Pretty much the biggest legend alive.

Jared. I love you.

:thumbsu:

Great story except for the flinging around road construction signs bit. WE DESPERATELY NEED HIM OUT ON THE FIELD AND CANNOT RISK INJURY!

Played with Paul Wheatleys brother and cousin, and funnily enough they always shit stirred me because I barrack for Melbourne.
Had a feed with a few demon players at the Sydney airport back in 94 I think it was, when they were coming back from flogging the swans. Luckily for me Peter Rhode was my school teacher and told me and my bro to come and join them. Ahhh, the benefits I got from knowing Pete.

I think I was in year nine at the time.. or ten. Either way, it was a little while back. I went to see the boys train during the school holidays with a friend (we got there early to have a kick on the ground) only to get there and realize that neither of us managed to remember to bring one.
We saw that Chell had arrived pretty early, so my friend jokingly asked him if he could get us a footy from inside the rooms, to which Andrew said something like, "i'll see what I can do".
My friend and I were just walking along the boundary when Chells came jogging out with a brand new sherrin, had a quick chat with us, then went back inside to get changed. It made my day. Such a nice bloke. I'm so glad that he's back at the club.

I think that this could have been the same year, but I was at Chadstone with my mum, and spotted Simon Godfrey (I don't think that he had played a game yet, but.. anyway) I walked over to ask for an autograph and after a bit of small talk, he informed me that he was just about to walk over to Green and Bruce who were sitting in the food court, so I walked with him, got some signatures, and that was that.

I got out of that 'fangirl" stage about a year later, but they were really nice blokes, and things like that stay with you for a while.
