Terry didnt even go through the process, or do a presentation cause it was so incompetent. It was eade's interview where wayne didnt turn up which is a joke really. The process was appalling and very unprofessional.

Was it? My memory is a little hazy.

Remember when Craigy turned up in his jeans and a Crows polo shirt. I'm sure he already had the job. But lucky for Triggy that we are doing well and Craig is turning out to be a very good coach.

yes, although eade said he didnt have a problem with it, but he would hardly of complained if he wanted the job. Wallace pulled out early cause he didnt like what he saw, not that you can blame him. Everything has turned out well though.

Yeah it has so far, but what happens next time there is a major appointment like this to be made. I'm not complaining about our on-field form but I fear that it has made it easier to hide the major problems that we have at board level.

For one, I think John Reid is passed his used by date.

You're picking and choosing your criticisms at an easy time. To have an attitude of "nyeh nyeh nyeh" after tonight's game - and to highlight one particular failed matchup - is being overly unfair. By that logic Neil Craig should have been written off after he was utterly outcoached by Rodney Eade (Rutten/Darcy especially) in the second half of our loss to the Dogs.

At the start of the year everyone wrote off Richmond, but who would have expected them to do as well as they have - and who knows how different the past three weeks may have gone had Nathan Brown (who was on AA and Brownlow form) not gone down with a shattered leg?

Tonight they were blitzed, but all young sides going through a heavy rebuilding phase cop it at some stage - see Hawthorn last night (and Adelaide at the Gabba last year... such a short memory) - its a necessary evil visited upon all coaches charged with resuscitating a wooden spooner.

And as I said, where was this thread when they smashed the reigning Premiers and defeated the Lions at the Gabba? Or could Wallace coach in those particular weeks?

Im back been busy on other things beside reside here.
Now first of all I have said I didnt think that he would come here anyway and just wanted to be in the race for the coaching position so as to bump up his salary.
Second and most important I stated that his coaching on Saturday night was deplorable by leaving their most important ball magnet out of the action for at least a quarter and a half.
Yes NC was outcoached by Eade when we played the doggies, and he acknowledged that to his credit.

To me he was a too negative type coach and thats why I didnt want him to come here. I also said I thought the NC appointment was wrong by then I have been eating that well famous pie for a while, and while the rest of the seaon could go belly up for us from here, he has IMHO done a great job so far.
Personally I think too many people of here take themselves too seriously. Ouch.

Ok. I was against Craig getting the job for all of the reasons already mentioned here. 1/2 a season doesn't make a career, but the teams performances this year has WAY WAY outstripped my expectations.

He can take full credit for the improvement in the backbone players. He can take full credit for the renewed spirit in the team. He can take full credit for some good coaching moves over the course of the year.

I am concerned that he has not fast tracked some of the younger players as quickly as he could have BUT, his performances so far have certainly earned him the benefit of the doubt.

It seems that we have landed ourselves a quality AFL coach & if that is the case then the much maligned "process" worked.

Relevance?

I liked Nigel Smart's assessment of coaches last year. Can't remember exact words, but this is the guts of it, "Coaches can have the best game-plans in the world, but if the players don't turn up to play, the side will be beaten."
I agree. A coach's main functions are to motivate players to play at their top week in and week out, and to bond as a team, do the one-percenters. A lot of the rest of it is media hype.
It is interesting that the Adelaide defence--any one of them--can call a change on the field if they see a mismatch without waiting for the staff up in the box to become involved.
Now that's real intelligence in laying the responsibility for performance of the entire backline with the players as well as the coaching staff.
