List Mgmt. Where are they now? (ex suns)

Let's not get carried away. Zac played a great first quarter, an okay second quarter, and a terrible second half. He was no-where in the second half, which was always his issue. Once he's out of a game he struggles to get back into it. He's not a second ruck, nor is he a forward. He's a ruck who can go forward and kick goals on the mismatch he creates.

He must be the first ruck, rucking 90% of the game. For some reason they opted to play Stanley in the ruck for the entire second half? Maybe they hope to just ruck each for a half to keep them fresh.

Love Zac, and good on him. But this was always going to happen IMO. Apparently our players turn great after they switch club? Please. They've always been capable of that. They've always done that. It's just no-one watches Suns games.

People bringing up Caddy - really? IMO he's been ordinary since leaving GC. He's had the occasional good game where he flashes and shows his brilliance, like yesterday, but most of the time he seems a role player in that squad.

Spot on.

Best ruckmen we've ever had at the Suns carved up the Adelaide Oval yesterday
And I'm getting the feeling Mav will be a 200 game player at St Kilda
Agree it's starting to really shit me how many players are vastly better at there new clubs after we let them go

Mav
Smith
Harely ( will dominate )
Hickey
Caddy
Dixon

On current form ALL of the above would be in our top 18. Not sure if it's just being in a football state that lifts them or whether our culture was that bad ( probably both) but I am getting ****ing sick of it

Caddy finished 7th in Geelongs B&F

Last year? In a team that didn't play finals?

That's about where he's at. Serviceable with a few flash-in-the-pan games to bump up the votes.

Can't believe how hysterical people get about ex players. What's the point? Look forward guys.

Interested to read the thoughts on Smith and to a lesser extent Caddy. I was really big on ZS when he came into the game and then after the injuries thought he might be done. Was excited when he indicated he was interested in us.

The bolded is exactly what we need from him. About 70% game time as #1 ruck and resting forward or the bench.
We have Stanley that works well in tandem. Also, I agree that we will be trying to keep both somewhat fresh as the sum of the parts is greater than their individual value IMO.

And with Stanely being the running machine of the two, if ZS tires and goes forward more later in games that helps us as the taller guys dont get any smaller as the fatigue sets in.

Id also read that a few people up here thought he was soft. Not saying that was not the case at the time, but we are yet to see it and wasn't yesterday.

Very glad we got him .

Have a great year.

Yeah, I'm really glad you got him too.. he is an average ruckman at best.. he kicked straight yesterday which has got everyone in raptures.. I think you will find that Zac's performance will average out to mediocrity very quickly and id be surprised if he is not dropped before round 10... but good luck to you, the Catters look good this year, just not in the Ruck.

Thanks for the reply. I differ in opinion but that's not surprising.

The thing we have not had since Otto in 2011 is what ZS is - a true #1 ruck. We had to wait for Otto to get to 28 before he hit his straps.
And as they say, one mans trash is another mans treasure. And the change of culture seems to have helped too.

I think he will surprise this year but lets wait and see before annointing him the second coming. Hope the 3rd picks work out for you.

The first half of Zac Smith yesterday was what everybody hoped he would be capable of producing week in week out when he first arrived on the scene. But the Zac Smith after half-time was more the Zac Smith that got traded at the end of last season. Just finds it hard to get back into a game if he is struggling.

The talk of him struggling with his aggressiveness is mainly do with him getting outmuscled in the ruck by the likes of Sandilands, Goldstein, Martin, etc and not be able to use his leap as well. He would get pushed off it too easily too often. Add to that we couldn't tandem him and Nicholls together meant Smith was missing out on selection. I dont know what the % of time spent in the ruck was yesterday, but he was only up against Mcevoy and some first gamer, so its too early to know how much he has improved in that aspect. But he did look fantastic around the ground in that first half which is good to see. And I dont think anyone here wants anything but for him to well down with you guys so look after him. :)

Caddy on the other hand, I dont think anyone really cares about him anymore. Looked like he could have been on a similar (possibly slightly lower) trajectory to Prestia in his final season with us IMO (maybe second last as well cant remember). Hasnt really met those expectations, yet, down there, but thats not to say he hasn't improved, just not to the level he looked like achieving. But hes just another player in the competition for me now.

But anyway good luck for the season. With a fit and firing Smith anything possible for you guys.

And we expect him to barely break even against the best TBH. But given he will at least have the size and skill to compete, we are 100% better than Blitz and Walker doing the same.

Best for the year.

Gee if Smith turns into half a Brad Ottens then, well he won't! Calling Zac Smith a true Ruck is just because he can't do much else (and I know that sounds ironic considering yesterday's first half but that was an aberration I can assure you), the problem with him being a true ruck is he is not very good at rucking...and this is why we let him go.. Zac Smith is fool's gold I'm afraid.. that's not to say your a fool but you do say Go Catters a lot on an oppsition's board..

This is all true but Daz is also a member of the suns development coach Max Rooke appreciation society so he's alright.
Zac's perfect for Geelong because they lacked a tall ruck to go up against other teams with monster rucks even if he's not really skilled in the art of tap ruck work. I will be surprised if Zac is still leaping as high come July but time will tell. Good luck to Zac and the Cats (was happy they knocked off the Hawks yesterday) but will be very interesting to see Zac come up against Tommy Nichs later in the year after he virtually conceded he wasn't going to get a game ahead of Tommy and asked for a trade.

Zac got 3 free kicks within 30m of goal and kicked 3 goals
Just wouldn't happen in a Suns guernsey
I remember once GAJ getting one for us within kicking distance and every opposition supporter had a meltdown

Caddy stood up at the most important time during the game on Monday. I think we're underrating him a little. He's not a ball magnet but he makes up for that by doing everything right. But he's wasn't irreplaceable, if that's what we're talking about.

He's a solid role player. I don't think he's yet turned into that bull of a goal-kicking midfielder that both the Cats and us hoped he would be from his junior days. Definitely not irreplaceable as I'm more than happy with how his replacement Jesse Lonergan is developing for us.

Lonergan the better midfielder already. Caddy a better forward though.

I found it pretty hard to watch the footy last week with a lot of ex suns doing so well but i then realized if Caddy was still at the club we never would have seen the best of Aaron Hall, if Hickey stayed we would have lost Smith sooner, if Dixon stayed we would have lost Wright and kept Dixon's poor influence on Martin and others. As for Zac Smith, let's wait and see how Currie goes we may have gotten a good deal in the end.

We're not the only ones going through this, Treloar has been awesome for Collingwood so far and there have been others GWS would have really missed.

It's hard to watch, but watching Dixon get destroyed by the Adelaide backline will be worth it :P

If Talia takes him you'd think he will struggle.
I just reckon that without Schulz, Adelaide will focus entirely on Dixon rather than the two prong forward line when Schulz is in the side.

Dixon is one hell of a player so he'll probably still snag a few goals, but he'll have to learn how to take the best defenders week in, week out. Good learning opportunity for the Big Dix.
