Where do you live - your country, area, community? Pakenham, land of plenty (of ferals that is)

What restrictions are there? None that I've seen so far

Do you know of any confirmed cases? No.

Is your employment or that of people you know affected? As I have a lung defect my work is making me work from home til June (at least) so apart from cutting 3hrs of travel a day and now waking at 6.30am rather than 5am it's been pretty damn fine. Mrs Slabs is an aged care nurse so I'm cutting down my outside travel. For the young slabs both of whom are online gamers they think this is the best thing ever

Where do you live - your country, area, community? Melbourne

What restrictions are there? Only official gov ones

Do you know of any confirmed cases? No

Leave bought forward early reviewed in a month.
I'm happy to take precautions but don't know how in Australia no human contact and people not socialising indefinitely will work.
I'm currently sick with a bad cold (not corona) and have sinus troubles so certainly don't want this but going out (essential activity) yesterday felt like a criminal for coughing

Well I’m not saying this is intentional or not a real issue. But its come along at a very very convenient time for the global warming issue. Can anyone think of any other possible way to stop the entire world economy in its tracks. Where no one can really argue, no this is wrong? It’s blunt and indiscriminate but effective.

Where do you live - Cowes, Phillip Island.

What restrictions are there? None that I've seen.

Do you know of any confirmed cases? No.

I work fifo to and from WA, I don't think I'll be going back for the foreseeable future, I'll find out sometime today. If they can get me back over there then I'll be going and think I'll be stuck there for months. I have enough leave for 6 to 12 months (take it at full or half pay) but if I can get back there then I will.

My wife works day care. I've just read that if they're forced to close, the government (us) will pay them for the duration so they can hit the ground running again when it passes.

No politics please, just personal anecdotes.

I'm in Malaysia. Lockdown began on Wednesday, military enforcement of lockdown began today.

The cafes I usually do my remote work from all closed on Wednesday so now I have to work from home.

The condo I am staying in closed the pool and gym yesterday. Instead I am running up and down the stairs for some exercise.

Now that Australia is pulling the same lockdown stunt, I predict more people will start asking if this is really all about a flu from China.

It is easy to buy into the hysteria and demand to be locked down until you realise the consequences for yourself and those you care about.

Fun times ahead for Australia.

This common cold is a system wrecker. Look at the Carnage in Italy, 1 ventilator for every 8 who need it. They have the largest ageing population in Europe. We have a large ageing population but we also have a lot more unhealthy people. Our system can't cope if it breaks out amongst them. I have a former friend in an aged care facility, that's been shut down because a doctor came back from America with it.

Conversely though, many aware that the world needs to change and perhaps this is it. The time for dissent is over.

Well it's clear that covid19 is a man made virus. They are trying to kill off the elderly so we don't have to support them and restructure the global economy/ condition people to accept future austerity measures to reduce emissions. This is an experiment to track emissions when the number of vehicles on the road/planes in the sky are drastically reduced. It's like a practice run for what's coming next.

That's part of it. They are trying to stage an overthrow of the current system. They are basically turning rottnest island in a penal colony, lol. They are literally going to apprehend and detain people who have not even committed a crime...because of a flu. That is what you call a police state.

It's been an interesting phenomena watching the conspiracy theorist side of the internet swing from the old school *-the-system tinfoil hat wearing lefties (who - whilst wacky - did make for awesome movie characters) to conservative pc gone mad types.

I am definately stark raving mad, but I have a question for you level-headed, rational, non-mad folks. Do you condone the government's plan to turn rottnest into a prison island to detain australians who have this flu? Coz that sounds rather like a police state to me.

Gladstone Central Queensland. No confirmed cases yet but a few rumours going around. Rockhampton, an hour away, has had several confirmed cases.

Live in outer north west suburbs of Melbourne, but I work at a major urban hospital.
From the hospital side
- running a fever clinic between 10-10 (roughly) to identify those who need tests but can otherwise not be in hospital to avoid emergency
- doing lots of simulation practice between departments to work out safer ways (for staff and patients) to provide respiratory support including intubation (putting a breathing tube in)
- plans to repurpose areas of hospital and emergency as infectious specific areas to make care a little easier for staff
- considering whether emergency consultants work overnight as a roster
- potentially I might move out of home closer to work (eg hotel) to keep my family safe (as I’m the main chance of them getting infected)

Live in Adelaide. I work for Australia's largest private franchise with more than 3000 employees, franchisees and call centre staff nationwide. National has been on the ball from the outset. As of today, not one employee, franchisee, franchisor or any other staff has been diagnosed with Covid19.
So far my only restrictions are those that are mandated by the federal and state gov. To date i know of no one who has contracted the virus. My life has been impacted i suspect the same as many others with respect to grocery shopping and only essential travel etc.

As of yesterday I've been furloughed, on 80% pay, and my employer isn't topping up the other 20%. I don't begrudge them that - few companies are going to be able to afford to fully pay all their sidelined staff - but it will make life more challenging for the next few weeks. It's also very surreal not hearing any cars on the roads, and we're home-schooling our daughter in the short-term, which is proving tough.

So no one knows anyone who personally who is confirmed of having Covid-19? I would have thought for a disease that is causing societal lockdown and world economic collapse we might have witnessed some first hand accounts.

It's much harder for me to get pussy now, being self-isolated and all.

Apart from that, I'm doing ok I guess, compared to others who have it much worse.

Where do you live - your country, area, community?
New York City.

What restrictions are there?
Not that up to date TBH; we haven't gone outside since last monday. Last I heard tho, police were 'enforcing' the stay and shelter, tho I dont know what that means in all practicality.

Do you know of any confirmed cases?
Only indirect at this stage. Three weeks ago an office workers girlfriend had a confirmed case in her building; yesterday there was a confirmed case in my own on my floor.

Is your employment or that of people you know affected? Im working from home, and have been for almost two weeks now. Will be for at least 6 weeks more. But i need to go back at some stage to pick up my machine because my home internet is proving too unreliable for remote desktop.

Why not use a couple of the empty cruise liners anchored offshore as quarantine quarters?

Northern suburbs of Canberra.

Don't know of any confirmed cases.
Hasn't really impacted me much yet, other than psychologically from seeing how others have been impacted.
Work has had to rearrange priorities based on announcements, and rushing things through in days that would normally have weeks or months of testing, after a long time for business arms and other agencies to sort through functional issues.

Apart from that less people on the buses.

We finally start work from home on Monday. But no doubt that will fail because they've had to ramp up capacity so quickly and we'll back in the office Tuesday.
