The are a few of us that play the grand old game. Just wondering where it is you play?

I am an ordinary cricketer and play in the R.D.C.A (Ringwood District) Just in the one day comp. Love the fact that it frees you up for a weekend if you want to have 1 off for the spring carnival and the Ansett cup. We are all the same and have a roster of about 20 who are all handy cricketers most of us have atleast played 1's or 2's.

Game plan- meet at the pub for a few and a countery and then convoy to the ground arriving 5min before the game to fininsh the traveller and win the tos field bowl them out for as little as poss and then make them as quick as you can (at about 10-13 a over) then back to the rooms. Play in shorts when its hot turn the radio up for the fielders for the big races and no arvo tea just a couple of slabs. Now thats Cricket. but finas is a bit different - there is usually arvo tea or at least a barby.

All cricketers please answer this it is for your benifit.(gear wise).

i played at Eastern Suburbs. started playing grade cricket in Sydney in 1964 at age 18, that was in 5th grade. In 1968/69 i made my first grade debut. I was in and out of 1st grade for 3 season, until i was 24, then i played 7 full seaons of first grade from 1971/72 - 1977/78. After that i played a mixture of 1st and 2nd Grade until 1982/83, then i continued playing 2nd grade to 1991/92 before i finished up.

I'm current;y winding my career down with Westminster High Old Scholars B grade in local 'hard wicket'.
Formerly played for South Australia up to Under 17's and for Glenelg District until 18. I then decided that my chronic back problems were caused by running in off 25 metres trying to knock blokes heads off ;)
I had a couple years off then played A Grade in this comp until 3 years ago.

What club and WHERE DO I SIGN? HAHA

Had a couple of brief runs at Sunshine United Cricket Club in one of the western suburbs leagues in the late 80s/early 90s. Problem is I always left it too late in the season to register (partly because I played tennis as well), so it was mostly training, and very little playing. Didn't really fit in with the people there either, but it was the only club and nets close to my house, so there wasn't much choice to go elsewhere.
Can't bat, can't bowl (handy with gloves and in teh field though), so they weren't missing out on anything.

Hmmm....can't bat, can't bowl that sounds familiar....oh yeh & there was can't field as well. What am I talking about you may ask, well this was the lable given by the Aussie media to.....

............the victorious 86/87 Ashes party!(& a side that will probably go down in history as the last English side to win an Ahes series-LOL)

Played my first senior game in 1974 at age 12 for Brahma Lodge in the local hardwicket competition. Reached A Grade as an opening bat at age 17. Suffered a bad football injury at age 18 which held me back a fair bit.

Became the regular A Grade wicket keeper until about 1995 when I slipped back to the B Grade as an opening batsmen (not keeping). Got back into the A grade this season at age 39.

I play B Grade for the mighty Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in Sydney. GO MANLY!!

Things I love about playing cricket:

- Sledging batsman until they cry
- Fielding with a beer and a smoke
- Dispatching smart-arse bowlers to the boundary
- End of seaon trip
- Pounding in like DK Lillee off a 100 meter run up. (Unfortunately the similarity ends once I release the ball.) I've even got the little forehead sweat flicks happening!

I used to play footy (Aussie Rules) as well, but cricket suits my physique a little better these days!

This is surely the definitive description of what makes cricket the game it is-they should print this lot on the inside cover of Wisden so that people don't lose touch with what it's all about.

It is not about clapping the opposition, saying well played, eating salmon sandwiches & wearing mustard & tomato sauce coloured ties.

Ps when you've bowled your first ball of the day using your Lillee run up do ever look at the batsman wipe a bit of the sweat off your brow tatse it & say 'mmm bacardi & coke'-'apparently the great man has been known to do that himself-lol)

No, but I think I will next season! (Although I think I'd have to say JD and Coke!)

Actually, I am currently working on my moustashe as I believe ALL great Aussie cricketers should have a whopping big moustashe. ;) Ala - DK, Marshy, AB, Boooooooooonie, Merv, Tangles, Any Chappell, Hookes etc. etc. etc.
