barely any info has come out from the club about Bower's injury, and for the last 2 weeks it has been listed as 'test'.

then this week ratts comes out and saying that he was just close to getting up up last week and was 50-50 for this week. how can he be close one week, and then 50-50 then next?? is Bowers injury more serious than the club is making out, or is he just one more week away?

need my boy paul back for my SC team...

This seems to be occurring more and more at our club. Players are listed with 1 week injuries and it is 4 weeks before they return. Hampson is not even on the injury list.

seems like a lot of clubs are doing this now... trying to throw off other clubs about what their lineup might be that week.

just like ottens last year... he was always 1 week away. ended up sitting out most of the season.

Yeah, Brisbane and Essendon looked to be real thrown off.. Who do the CFC think they are kidding..Its pathetic.. If BF posters know that he is injured, Im sure the opposition coaching staff do aswell..

exactly. brisbane weren't going to change their game plan of kicking it to fev and brown when bower was a late withdraw...

they should have just come out and said how serious the injury was and the amount of weeks etc at the start.

Test mean Test you could fail 3 weeks in a row or month.

Its not always "cloke and dagger" when they say week after week they are 50/50.

Let me preface by saying I have no idea what Pauls injury is, but I think I saw somewhere it was a "thigh" or quad injury.

As a physio you look to see how someone recovers from training etc. If they get through all the drills, but pull up "sore" the next day it tells you the muscle hasn't recovered enough to be at "full strength", and that playing is a risk. Hence you often hear players ruled out because "he pulled up a bit sore".

It may well be that Paul has progressed to 80% + and you would normally expect that he would be able to play, but continues to get soreness and isn't worth the risk of a bigger injury.

A great example of the was Jimmy Clement. Missed around 10 or more weeks with a 2 week calf injury. Just kept getting sore week after week, despite their aparently not being a significant amount of tissue damage.

Just my two bobs worth.

Yup. :thumbsu:

Greg Denham on radio this morning reported that Bower would be at least another 2 weeks away...

Greg gets good mail from the club...

A 4 week injury for a quad sounds right

Bower has a stress fracture in his foot and is expected to miss the next 4-6 from what i've been told from inside the club.
Bummer if true. :thumbsd:

These can be very vague and timelines vary wildly. Not sure why they would go with "test" if this were true, but maybe there is some "Cloak and dagger" after all.

Has he been training? If so how hard he is running would tell you.
If he is running hard but not doing a load of kicking then likely to be soft tissue and IS genuinely a "test" week by week.

If he isn't really running hard at all then maybe the stress fracture story has some legs.

Any training reports?

Not a stress fracture, dont know where you got that from, pulled his quad...usually a 4 week injury so he should be back next week

This wont be popular and I know we don't have a lot of choices but I think Bower is pretty much the most over-rated player on our list.

You're spot on!!!!!

You won't be popular.:thumbsu:

I'd go in the complete opposite direction...the most under rated. Contests hard, rarely beaten when fit, never shirks, good temperament, takes the game on, generally does something constructive, structurally important and allows other backs to play their preferred roles. What more do you want from a young backman?

He's definately proving to be one of the most important to our side structure wise.

Not sure who I'd rather have out - we seemed to perform better with Bower in the side than Jamison towards the end of last year...

He is good at getting easy kicks and chipping the ball around the backline, he is indecisive and has not taken on or taken out any top forwards. I think Jamieson has much more dash than Bower, I guess time will tell.

Soryy bbb, are you sure you've got the right guy? That sounds like how the people who don't like Thornton describe him, but it's a fair way off the mark with Bower, even if you don't like him. Plenty more dash than Jamo, loves to get the ball around half back and run through the middle. Has taken on and beaten a few top forwards, Buddy Franklin and Nick Riewoldt(for the last three quarters) last year were two of his best performances.

Easy kicks? Well it's a lot easier to that in the backline these days but he gets a lot of the ball in heavy traffic then takes the opposition on. Very rarely see him chipping the ball around the backline, he's usually the one to try and run through the guts and pass it off to a team mate after having set up a running passage of play.
