Overnight (Australian time) the US and Britain commenced air attacks on Taliban installations in Afghanistan, the US also dropped some food rations into remote areas of Afghanistan which had not yet recieve any food aid.

France, Germany, Australia and Canada, as well as few other countries have pledged their support for the attacks and pledged to offer military support, while Iran, Iraq and the Taliban have condemned the attack.

What do you guys reckon will happen from here?

  • * Do you believe there's a real possibility of retaliatory attacks by terrorists in countries supporting the attacks, possibly even here?

    * Do you believe that other rogues states, particularly Iraq, could become involved in the war? Or that radical Islamic factions within Islamic countries will launch attacks?

    * Or do you think that this is the beginning of the end for worldwide terrorist groups and that we've seen the worse of terror attacks?

Whatever happens, hopefully not too many innocent lives will be lost and the terrorist organisations are removed.

I think the first two events will occur. It is obvious the terrorist groups have representatives in all countries and will retaliate.
They are fearless and will not be intimidated.

I also think suddam Hussien will use this opportunity to get involved. This may bring in other countries.I see where Indonesia is starting on western foriegners.

Hold onto your hats folks!!!

The American Eagle is a dead duck ... and Australia is going down with it.

Of course Australia will be attacked. We deserve to be attacked for siding with the Yankee scum.

You're a d1ckhead Mr. Andrews. If we didn't side with the Americans and a large majority of the rest of the world, where does that leave us. Would you rather have us on the terrorist side because you are afriad of a few group a peoples scattered around the world. Get a clue:rolleyes:

Geez no wonder your a collingwood supporter......conditioned to pessimism.

I dont think were all gonna die but obviously some people will unfortunately.

Whats your real name?
Muhammed.

Yes, I believe there will be various terrorist attacks throughout the allied world. These militant Muslims believe in their cause even more fervently than what we follow our own doctrines.

There is a very real danger of strongly fundalmentalist countries, ie Iraq, becoming involved, not only to support the Taliban, but to further their own agendas. I have a very real fear that individual fragments within various Muslim cultures, such as we see in Pakistan and Indonesia, rise up to not only cause civil unrest, but to try to push their own government to take up the Taliban's cause.

Unfortunately terrorism will never end, it is so easy for some zealot to strap on some bombs, go into some crowded centre, and then blow up themseves plus many hundreds of innocents.

What I do not understand is the thought processes of someone like Alf Andrews, if he is so pro Taliban, why is he still enjoying the relative safety and comforts of Australia?
Why has he not made his way to Afghanistan, to enrol in their "freedom fighters" movement, against those whom they see as their oppressors?
Why does someone like Alf Andrews continue to hold an Australian passport, when he so obviously is diametrically opposed to his countries political conventions?

After hearing Bin Laden's speech on Foxtel last night, I think they mean business.

Which is scary.

Worrying signs coming out of . . .

There's worrying signs coming out of the World's two largest Islamic countries: Pakistan and Indonesia. Particularly, in Pakistan there's been large protests and riots following the US bombing with many radical groups in Pakistan angry with the US, their allies, and the Pakistani Government for siding with the US and their allies. Pakistan have been between a rock and a hard place ever since September 11, they had to side with the US or face the possibility of attacks against themselves, meanwhile Pakistan has traditionally close ties to Afghanistan and many Pakistanis are opposed to any strikes against Afghanistan. Westerners have been warned not to venture outside for the very real fear of being attacked or possibly killed by fundamentalists sympathetic to the Taliban.

Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the military are stepping up security in case of any attacks on Western properties, and people are being urged not to visit Indonesia.

Indonesia appears to be close to boiling point. Looks like little Johnny forgot about the religious beliefs of one of our closest neighbours when he went in 'all guns blazing'.

Sydneyfan, I hope your avatar is a shrine to the great man, Alby Mangels, and not a payout. :D

Pro-Taliban, huh?

Well, it's like this. I wanted Brisbane to win the Grand Final because I don't like Essendon. So, I was pro-Brisbane on Grand Final day. That doesn't mean that I want to go and live there.

So, although I'm barracking for the Taliban in this conflict, it doesn't mean that I'm a paid-up member. In fact, if the Taliban was to declare war on the anarchists of Melbourne I'd be barracking against them.

And what's this crap about an "Australian passport"?

I wouldn't know an Australian passport if I fell over one. I was BORN in this country. I have lived here all my life. And I know this. Australia used to be a great place to live.

But there have always been worrying signs as long as I can remember. American cultural and economic imperialism took root in Australia as a payback for their "help" in stopping the Japanese in the 1940s.

Oh, how grateful Australia was. And we've been paying America back ever since ... by letting America take over OUR country. And then, to add the irony, the Japanese also took over a pretty large slice of our country after the Yanks turned them into an economic power.

Thank you, America.

I'm not leaving. Why should I? The people I care about live here. I don't belong in Afghanistan. It's a culture completely foreign to me.

There's no way I am going to let a bunch of jingoistic, nationalistic, capitalistic, imperialistic, flag-waving, four-eyed, born-to-rule, sweet-talking propaganda merchants drive me out of MY OWN COUNTRY.

I will die here ... in the rubble ... with the rest of you.
