Nothing personally against Whiley, I'm sure he's a good bloke who gives his all.....but if he is getting a regular game for us ,we are going no-where.

Really hope he proves me wrong

None of us will know until we see him in some real games.

As some have mentioned, he was actually pretty good in the half he played against Hawthorn.

What i noticed was that with a better midfield in NAB 1 (even without Murphy and Cripps) Whiley looked a lot better because when he had the ball in traffic, our mids were presenting him with handball options...guys like Kerridge, Gibbs and Thomas.

But in NAB 2, he would look around and there was no one in support, then get caught HTB. Our younger inexperienced mids didnt really help him at all.

Positive thing is in both games he was consistently getting his hands on the ball first, before the opposition.

I'd still be keen on him, but as you say for the right price.

Opinions change pretty quick.

I for one think we're overrating him, especially thinking he will be a KPF, but we did just recently offer pick 11 for him...

Unless he drastically improves this year, wouldnt want to spend more than a Yarran like pick 19 to get him

He took 2 marks.

Tall forward, can take a mark, nice kick...............goes missing for quarters.

Can't play anywhere else.

Wouldn't be selling the farm for him.

Agreed ,
Just doesn't get enough of the footy .
He looks a nice player but haven't seen that hard , take no prisoners edge that separates the best from the rest ...

Post of the day, IMO...!

That was a silly rumour that we all got sucked in by in the final hour; we had more points before the trade for pick 11, GWS would never have entertained it.

He was highly rated and was almost a regular after the 2012 flag I think (or 2013), but they seemed happy to see him go, didn't try hard to retain him and GWS clearly weren't phased.

I don't doubt his ability, I just don't rate his work off the ball.

They only let him go because they had to afford Franklin.

If we got the choice between Franklin or Lamb, we'd do the same. Didn't mean that Lamb wasn't good, just that Franklin was obviously preferred.

Yeah I think you're right, GWS offered a tasty 3 year contract so he chose to go there. But still, he didn't come close to delivering on that. I just think if it was going to click for him it would have by now.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Plowman - He'll definitely come on in leaps and bounds when he gets some game continuity. Good size and no real weaknesses in his game. Solid at worst, potentially an A grader.
Lamb - Doesn't look to have the evasion or the goal sense for a gun forward and he doesn't get enough of the pill for a midfielder. He needs to find a role and excel at it, otherwise he'll just be a good depth player.
Phillips - Tall, athletic, looks like he can take a mark when on-song and covers the ground well. What more do you need from a ruckman?
Jaksch - Has class and a bit of strut. I can see him developing into an important forward. Yes he's skinny but sinewy bodies can still be strong (SOS, Fletcher, Tuck etc.) and besides their pointy bits really hurt!
Whiley - Just gets caught too much with the ball. Doesn't think quick enough or have good enough vision to be a 100 game midfielder.
Sumner - I just love players that glide over the ground with extreme pace. Has good skills from what I've seen but the question is can he get the pill. That's what's going to determine his fate in my humble opinion.

I think Sumner will surprise a lot of people. Plowman is almost a certainty. Phillips may just end up a depth ruckman but could end up a best 22... Lamb I think will be beaten by Gallucci and Smith. Jaksch will establish himself if not this year then next. As for whiley I think this is is make or break year

Gallucci is rookie listed right?

If he is not eligible to play senior footy that might birth Lamb more opportunities to cement a spot.

A lot of it will come to competition for that particular spot. Phillips, Lamb and Plowman definitely have the advantage.

Actually rate Lamb a fair bit. Doubt he'll ever become an A-Grader... but a dangerous medium sized forward that gets in the face of defenders is what we need. If he can provide forward pressure, aggression, link up play and then pop up with a goal or two per game he can be our Luke Bruest.... woops I forgot.. and become an endangered species. smh.

Lamb will make it. Have absolute faith just needs game time

The issue I have with Jaksch is his decision making with the ball in hand. He seems to take slightly too long to pick his option which results in a turnover. Unlike the cool calm collected use of the ball by weitering, KJ seems to panic like tutt and then make bad decisions.

We need to move him forward so when he gets the ball, his doesnt need to make any decision except kick the ball between the big posts.
Perhaps something of an exaggeration, but with too much truth for my own liking.
Jaksch tends to screw up when he has time to think about it. The fewer options he has, the more likely he is to get it right. (The Tutt comparison does come to mind.) This was noticeable in defence more, which is logical. Last year he was slow to think: his opponent would get that gap on him, which he didn't have the pace to make up, while he was thinking about what he should do. Some of that is experience and he will get better with more game time and a better coaching regime. Some of it is reaction time. Diesel's great strengths were his reaction time and his anticipation: he got to where the wall was going first and then get it off before anyone get do anything about it. Jaksch needs to work on this area a lot.

Last year I was also worried about Jaksch's leap: he barely got off the ground. I don't expect every player to fly through the air like Andrew Walker, but I do expect to see the grass beneath their feet. It really hurt Jaksch last year as his spoils were often too low and he would make inappropriate body contact as a result. I hadn't noticed that at U18 level. I am hoping to see him improve in this area in 2016.

At the moment Phillips has impressed me more than I thought he would.
He still has some way to go physically, as he doesn't handle the really strong ruckmen that well yet, but I really love his leap in the centre square. We haven't had anyone who could challenge NicNat in the ruck as yet. He usually killed us in the middle and gave the Weagle mids a huge advantage, even when he wasn't getting a kick himself. Phillips has the leap and the timing to able to really hurt guys like NicNat, as he has the extra height to go with his leap.
I see potential in him. Of course, potential is a dirty word: we need results. However, I rally saw Phillips as nothing more than steak knives when we got him. That seems to have been a mistake.

funny to see most votes going to Plowman (including me)...even though he hasnt played a game for us..
Hasn't had a chance to let us down yet ....

A lot of things to work on there that come naturally to most good players.

Aside from his kicking, he really has shown me nothing to get excited about. I'm pretty upset he had to get a kick up the ass in the pre season.

4 years into your career at your 2nd club which you came to in a high profile trade and he's still slacking off. Hmmmmm
