Re: which one's sweeter?

Definitely this one. We have had our doubters, even ones within our own supporter base. Ones that lost focus, couldn't see the end picture behind the last win. Ones that can't think strategically or have a positive outlook on things.

We won.

Kudos to the supportive types who even through the mockery of those above, stood tall and believed.

Re: which one's sweeter?

2009 without a doubt, mainly because 6 weeks ago the cats were the underdogs of the top 4 and we're struggling with injury.

Fantastic effort by the medical staff to get all those dicey players up for the finals and running into form.

Geelong have been the dominant team for 3 years and of course with the pressure the media pile onto the club regarding number of premierships won there was only one way to shut them up and they've done it.

In 2007 we were expected to win, this one was well and truely earned the hard way.

Re: which one's sweeter?

This one for sure. We are no longer handbaggers. Our AFL/VFL winning perfecentage is greater than 50%

8/15! :thumbsu:

Re: which one's sweeter?

this one defently
07 was over after half time
this make me scream at the television every minute of the game!
these wins are better then floggings.

Re: which one's sweeter?

We need a poll.

2007 - special for the simple fact we won the flag.

2009 - special, nay sweeter for many many more reasons.

Re: which one's sweeter?

Definitely this one. 2007 was great too, but was essentially over at half time, and the second half was just one big training session.

We had to scratch and claw all the way to win this one, and to get our noses in front with 5 minutes to go, and hold on, was the best feeling ever. :thumbsu:

Re: which one's sweeter?

This one by a mile......................................................

Was happy in 07. But everything about 09 was a challenge, including the final.
And we beat a group who are in my top 3 hate list.

Re: which one's sweeter?

2007 by a little margin, as that was the one that broke our GF losing streak and started the ball rolling. This is very sweet though :).

Re: which one's sweeter?

How good has it been to be a Geelong supporter over the last few years? Including our VFL side, we've seen this current group win 2 AFL premierships, 2 NAB Cup grand finals, a VFL premiership, 2 Brownlow Medals, a Norwich Rising Star award, 3 AFLPA and AFLCA MVP awards, a player named as the Most Courageous Player in the league by his peers, a JJ Liston Trophy winner, a BOG award winner in the VFL grand final, 2 Norm Smith medals, 13 players and our coach named All-Australians, and we've won 64 out of our last 75 games. :thumbsu:

Re: which one's sweeter?

07 was great to break the drought.
09 awesome to get up & win for last years loss & sucha hottly contested game.

For mind, all cups are equally as important.

Re: which one's sweeter?

2007 is good because it was so satisfying, after so long to come out and get a record breaking grand final win on the board. To know that you are the best is one thing, but we were the best by a long, long way that day.

However, this one was sweeter. Last years loss, the injuries, the holes that people began pointing out in the side, the criticism of lesser players and the fact that we had not been the most dominant team this year contributed to the most emotional and greatest wins I have ever seen this club undertake.

I thought the 2009 GF was also good because of the way Blake and Hawkins played. They weren't the best, didn't set the world on fire but after R14 and the criticism they copped, it was good to see them come out and contribute.

I didn't really stress out a whole lot yesterday, even when we were down at every change. I just had this feeling that we were going to rise to the challenge, that we weren't going to let last year go without rectifying our mistakes this year. After watching the press conference, it was interesting to note that Bomber felt the same. Maybe that's why everyone was so calm.

Re: which one's sweeter?

2009- MY ABSOLUTE FAVE! The sweetness of 2007 following a long drought had a very different feel to me than yesterday. Both of them great, gimmee more!!! But this one, beating a Victorian team against the odds with the luck we have had this season tastes so sweet- can I have the day all over again?????? Great to see the Catters today on the stage with the cup in the air! Go you Catters!!!!!

Re: which one's sweeter?

Hands dow 2007. I'm not ashamed to say that I probably couldn't stop crying for an hour after the final siren even though we had won the game by half time. This one just solidifies the greatness of this team but I couldn't honestly say it was sweeter than 07. :thumbsu:

Re: which one's sweeter?

This one, for the following reasons...

I was at home for it. In 07 I was overseas working.

We weren't the best team for the year, but we stood up when it mattered.

We proved that 07 wasn't a fluke.

Because we got the preseason cup and the premiership cup, does the club get that $1m bonus or whatever it was? Or was that just a one off 2008 thing?

Re: which one's sweeter?

I was there in 07, had a tkt fa last yr but on-sold it to a hawks mate:cool::eek: as i was in queensland at the time; and lucky enough for my number to come up again this yr. In a nutshell...enjoyed it more in 07 coz it was over by 1/2 time, did'nt know what too feel yesterday....i was happy, releived, tearful but it's now i'm enjoying it most.

Re: which one's sweeter?

This one by a mile - but seems a long time ago in 07 to compare, but back then I was super confident. For this, I was confident but never thought we were deserved to be favorites and living in Sandringham, a big part of the Saints heartland, I remained definitely grounded.

And on a personal note i'd look stupid now with my ID if we didn't win this. Which was after the Brisbane loss btw.

Re: which one's sweeter?

This one I think. Just for the sheer persistence never to give up. Thats true courage!
