Haven't we learnt anything from the J.Hay fiasco??? Don't trade!
What we need is a key backman and a skilled outside runner, who'll be ready to take over when Boomer + Shagga retire.
With any luck we'll get Rioli, a freakish, pacy midfielder (think Winnie Abraham skills) in the draft...and a key backman like Kangars or Bongetti.

For Judd, I'd give McIntosh + Wells + 2nd Rounder.

Judd is a superstar but i wouldnt give arugbly 2 of our best 5 players to the eagles and serious dint our midfield depth.

I would go for Judd in the PSD as the club who can offer him the highest money in the first year will get his services.

give him 1.5 mill in yr 1 and give him a 4 mill contract + 3rd party money over 5 yrs.

I think we shelve trading and just draft best available. If we trade Id rather we sold off players to make more room for drafting kids.

Make no mistake, we are still a developing team. We need some quality young kids. No quick fix mentality like a couple of recent trading seasons.

Exactly. We might be 2nd on the ladder, but honestly, our list isn't the 2nd best in the competition. We are still a developing team, and our best shot will be 2008-9 if we can have luck with injuries, and have another player or two improve as McIntosh and Firrito have.

If we get Judd - how the hell will we be able to pay our other players, as our team improves. Imagine what Corey Jones will cost if he maintains his form and comes out of contract. Or Drew Petrie or McIntosh.

There's no point putting all our eggs in one basket. We've been burnt getting Hay, and have missed out on getting the early picks due to trading. We should be trying to find the next Selwood or Pendlebury.

Edit: And why would Judd want to come back to Melbourne, and join us - when even the members of our club don't know where we will be based in 3 years time. I can't see him treating the WCE so badly that he'd go into the PSD without them being compensated.

The more I think about it, the more I think it is crazy to offer up Andrew Swallow as trade bait. Once Simpson retires, he will be our go-to-guy.

IIRC he was offered as bait last year and there were no takers. I wouldn't be involved in trade talks this year. We don't need to be. We have enough young talent to develop. Thommo coming back releases Petrie back to defence permanently which releases Spud to a back flank or midfield. Swallow will have another pre season of weights behind him, Moran another of development and Campbell, Thomas, Lower, Urquhart, Hansen, Ross, McConnell, Goldstein & Riggio another pre season behind them. We are looking good for the future. No need to upset the applecart with some highly paid inclusion that is only going to stifle the development of what we already have in abundance, young talent.
