Damn shame about Paul. But that is the nature of the beast.

Anybody have any thoughts on which rookie should be promoted?

Dunn.
He's been in the system long enough now.

Play him next week for the whole game. If he breaks down during the NAB games then we lose nothing.

If Dunn can get fit he can play a very similar role to Hase. At least he could at WAFL level, we haven't seen it at AFL level. I vote Dunny.
On the other hand, Smith in a tagging role frees up J Carr or Crowley to be more offensive.
Either way, its probably Foster's spot in the 22 if he's fit.

Gutted for poor Hase, he deserves a break.

My heart says promote the Shadow but my head says that Young Smith deserves his chance.

Have a feeling Harvey will go with Dunn though, if he can get himself right.

Is he actually fit enough to do that?? The last I saw or heard of him he wasn't even in full training.

There's no need to rush an elevation. If Hase had to do his knee, then now is probably the best time (for the club anyway), at least we have a month to work on a replacement and alter structures if necessary. It also probably increases the likelihood of giving the rookies a run and seeing what they've got. Leave the spot open and have it as an incentive for the rookies. That spot needs to be earnt.

Dunn's a top 10 pick, he SHOULD be a differsnt class to the other rookies, just needs to get fit, and we might finally see it. Hopefully Harves isn't in any rush to elevate someone, and gives them a chance to earn it..

There was a whole lot of talk towards the end of last year that we can have a "designated rookie" - something to do with how many are on the veteran's list - and that a player could remain on the rookie list but still be selected during the regular season. Does anyone know what that was about?

And if it is like that, does it mean we get to have a "designated rookie" as well as elevate a rookie, effectivley meaning that 2 of the 5 rookies are eligible for selection....

definitely no need to rush this decision...Dunn is a very poor man's Hasleby, but if there was ever a chance to prove everyone wrong about him (espicially me!), this is the year!

I like Smitty...but no need to rush

Anyone think Josh Head might get an upgrade. My money is on Chris Smith but Head could get a gig.

Josh Head is on the main list already.

Brent Connelly, Ryley Dunn, Chris Smith, Calib Mourish & Luke Pratt are our rookies.

Why would there be a rush to promote a rookie? Rookies don't need to be promoted until they are needed in the senior team.

They currently have more than enough to choose from in the senior side. Rookies must earn their way to the promotion.

First things first, let's see one of them be considered for a game in the pre-season competition.

You is well clever. Respect :thumbsu:

Didnt we effectly demote Dunn at the end of last year? Give someone else a go. I vote for Smith if a promotion is required.

Here is a thread on the main board that briefly explains how the Nominated Rookie works.

Post #2 and #4 explain it somewhat, but im still rather confused.

Hasleby's replacement on the list

Hey guys, its been a while since i have been able to post due to work and other issues, but im wondering what your opinions are on who will replace hase on the list, seeing as he will be on the long term injury list.

Chris Smith? a durable runner through the midfield

Riley Dunn? IMO when we first picked him up i thought he was going to be a hasleby clone only faster, of course we all know his run with injuries so he may not be such an obvious choice

Brent Connelly? seeing as warnock had an injury interrupted preseason, and one injury to sandilands will leave us withn DUDmore (gilmore) having to ruck again, maybe it is worth us having this guy on the list as a replacement.

Pratt and Mourish i dont see as viable options but i could be wrong

I was down at training for a short while this morning, (will try and do a brief report later), and I reckon they'll hold off on elevating a rookie - quite simply I'm not sure any of them are up to it just yet. This is what I saw of the rookies:

1. Dunn - nothing. He wasn't there.
2 & 3. Pratt & Connelly - training separately; mostly working on their fitness and agility. They were running laps and then doing some other stuff on the other side of the oval.
4. Mourish - working with the forwards and then with the kicking coach working on kicking action.
5. Smith - with the midfielders for a short while, then a lot of work with the kicking coach, as he has a very strange kicking action... which I had never noticed before. If he can jump out of the blocks at Swans and stamp himself as a midfielder on the rise, he may be a chance - I reckon he's the most likely - but still a way to go I would think.

(BTW Taz, Kiwi and Hinkley were also working with the kicking coach while the rest of the squad (most of them) were working on set-plays and match simulation stuff with Harvs & co).
