Which rookie will we elevate?

Magin. I wont reiterate the reasons listed above.

I was tempted to pick Bock, partly because I agree with BTG's comments about Laycock's injuries, but also because (IMO) once he gets out there he can only improve. If he was to be given the taste of AFL in the last few games, then a whole preseason to bulk up (in the way that Pears and Myers and co have done) we'll have a player who oozes potential for 2010 / 11 Rising Star

I think all of our guys have potential to be RS but out of the Rookies I like Bock's game the most

I doubt that a decision will be made until the end of the NAB Cup, and a decision may not be made until Round 4 or 5.

You only promote a rookie if you feel that he is ready for AFL footy.

Magin is ready, we saw he could do it last season

If texta markings on your arm are your think...

Oi, they actually look good on him. I I like those tats anyway! That is not teh reason though as I feel he is the most AFL ready out of the rookies we have as sorry I just don't rate Magin

Magin because he's a second year player or Bock if we lose a ruckman to injury for more than 2 months.

I'm sure that Ryder could quiet eaisly fill the void as back up ruckman if injuries. I wouldn't be to worried about is poor peformance against St. Kilda in the final game of last season, he looked to be only playing with one arm and was on the operating table the next week. I'm not sure any of the rookies would be pushing past any of the players on the senior list at the moment to warrant being up-graded at the moment like in past seasons with players like Pev, Rioli and to a lesser extent Hocking and Atkinson in the pervious years

Nope, Bock would get monstered by any AFL listed ruckman, even the crap ones. If Hille or Belly went down for a bit, we'd still be better playing Paddy or Gumby as pinch hitters as they at least have reasonable body size, even if they aren't ruckmen per se.

Gumby would get injured in the ruck. Knights won't play him as a KPF because of the strain on his body - that's a walk in the park compared to rucking.

It comes down to Hurley/Pears v Bock.

It'd be as a back up to Ryder anyway (I should have made that clearer), but could Hurley and Pears hold down two defensive positions between them, or would it be better to throw Bock into the deep end

Honestly, I'd back Hurley and Pears. They are both footballers (as opposed to athletes) and both would probably have good composure even if they were getting beaten a little (and they would probably get beaten). Having said that I still think Gumby could handle stints in the ruck, he may have had injuries in the past but they were proably due to growing and then poor handling of those injuries. He wouldn't have to play a lot of time, just here and there to give Ryder a break, but without putting massive time into the ruck (and his body).

The other side is this, Bock weights the same as many midfielders. It's not about height, he simply doesn't have the weight or experience to even come close to competing well. And while some players can take a loss and grow if you hand absolute maulings to a young guy like Bock it could damage his future growth.

I'd want him there as back up.

As it stands:

Hille
[strike]Laycock[/strike]
Bellchambers
Ryder
Bock

If, say, Hille went down for two weeks, we'd be at:

[strike]Hille[/strike]
[strike]Laycock[/strike]
Bellchambers
Ryder
Bock

leaving us very thin if we haven't promoted Bock, and we're left with:

[strike]Hille[/strike]
[strike]Laycock[/strike]
Bellchambers
Ryder
[strike]Bock[/strike]

We couldn't afford to have Fletch and Ryder rucking, as we'd get mauled even more than if we had Bock rucking 20% gametime.

Magin or German, Magin really impresses me, always trying his hardest to be in the contest despite his size, great disposal and decision making, has a cool head too, German has a really good attitude and is in and under, could do with another Lonergan.

EFC have the ability to upgrade 2 rookies.

Welsh and Prismall are unlikely to be fit before Round.

I would wait until the end of the practice match series, and even 1 or 2 rounds into the AFL season.

A rookie upgrade should be for 2 reasons

1) Readyness to play senior football
3) Needs of the senior list

Maybe so, but i think the footy club is hoping that isnt the case. That would be worse case scenario for both players.

I think that Bock, for the reason we already have one ruckman down, and struggling, just to give some depth in case of injury.

Spot on Yaco. There needed to be another option up there.

- Wait until we need to upgrade a rookie, then make the decision on the need of the team and on which player warrants the upgrade based on form and improvement.

You don't have to elevate a rookie just for the sake of doing it.

FWIW, and IMO, Magin, despite his endevour, will never make it as a senior level player. +the usual BF qualification of "Happy to be proven wrong" :p

Also, Raising Bock just because he is a ruckman at this stage is probably pointless, as he is nowhere near ready for AFL football. He is a long term project at best. He would be broken in 2 if you threw him in there now, lol.

I picked Bock, heard great things about him, could play a defensive role for us if Paddy/Fletch go down.

The only defensive role Bock will play any time soon is goalpost.
