I looked in on the Carlton board today just to see if I couldn't find a bit of wailing and gnashing of teeth. I wasn't unhappy with what I found. Not surprisingly a lot of Blues posters want Gibbs blood for his softness and lack of desire around a contested ball.
A no 1 draft pick would seem a little wasted as a HBF sweeper which is perhaps the easiest role in footy to play. I would perhaps have Gibbs around HFF as a gifted outsider he might cause damage similar to Didak. It is beautiful to see their pain
It made me look at the 2006 draft and realise again how well Hine nailed that year. Out of the top 10 only Selwood, Reid and Brown have lived up to potential and there are not a lot of standouts further down the list.
For Hine to have picked out
Reid
Brown
Dawes
Dick
Goldsack
in the main draft, then the following rookies
Wellingham
MacCaffer
Clarke
is just an amazing hit rate. That Carltons no 1 has turned out to be a soft back 1/2 accumulator makes the joy of that draft all the sweeter
