What would you think about Hay from Hawthorn to come to Carlton and we give them Whitnall?

Both players are currently struggling at their current clubs and need a new breathe of air at a new home... both could benefit immensey at these clubs and put life back into both players.

Carlton need a key backman, even tough Hawthorn has Mark Williams as a key target for them, they still need a key tall in their foward line...

What are your thoughts?

It sounds fair to me. Though i might even say you're getting the rough end of the stick a bit, Hay is no good at all, whilst, Whitnall has unfulfilled potential.

all depends on how livo goes in the last 9 weeks, if he keeps improving they we may have found our answer.

hay for lance- i would try and get hay for less

Livingston has improved this year. Even his kicking has. He is good in the body contests and is giving his all with no midfield pressure to help the defenders out. He has had a pretty serious injury but overall looks pretty reasonable. Thornton is a good player and will only get better.
Karl Norman has a bad back and has struggled with it and that has not helped him. He is getting over it and played a good game for the reserves last week. It is only his attitude that is the problem. If he comes up then that is 3 tall defenders. Hartlett might play back or forward next year and he is a very good size (195cm). Depends where they see him. Same for Setanta as well.
Throw in Bryan who could go forward or back and Fisher and there are plenty of options. I would be more interested in running players who can win the hard ball or draft picks for Whitnall.

Why don't you guys just lay off whits. He at least contests every time the ball gets to him. He brings the ball to ground and allows the smalls to kick an opportunistic goal.

Lets put it this way. If he wants out, we'll get sweet FA for him. Just like we'll be getting for lappin if he decides he no longer wants to play for a no hope team as carlton is at the moment.

I agree with much of what is written above. I believe that whilst Lance's body is a concern his mental effort is very good. He does make a contest most of the time and does take alot of heat and does bring the ball to the ground.

He is also very clever with his tap ons in play. I noticed about 3 or 4 taps last week that were as good as any handball. I think that if he is given support and encouragement he could very well be a great value for us next year. At present his bargaining power isn't going to bring us picks or talent worthy of his undoubted value to us if he hits his straps.

Better to keep him next year on a lesser salary [at this point about 250k] and reap the reward if he does fire. If on the other hand he finishes the season well then lets either keep him or trade him for a decent draft pick. [1-4] I personally believe that if Lance is left up forward next year and is given better delivery that he will return to a 50 gaol plus player.

Hay has undoubted ability but I believe his desire and application is sadly lacking. We already have players like this.

Yeah I'd go for that. Hay has struggled with injury at Hawthorn and just might flourish at another club.... however Lance would not fit in with Hawthorn's pretty boy image.

Like the idea of having at Bryan down back, doing the kick ins. He can really roost the ball out of the defensive 50.

And no I would not trade Whitnall for a broken down Jon Hay.

Whitnall for Hay? you've got to be joking. Grossly in Hawthorns favour.

I think Lance has got a little too much negative publicity this year. I believe he has been very servicable. He's played most of the year in our besieged backline and the few times he's played in his key post at CHF he has been a threat. I agree we certainly need a tall, strong, Michael Sexton type defender in our backline who knows how to punch a ball. I'd like to see Normal, Bryan and Hartlett build our new defence along with Livo and Thornton.

I'll be watching the back half closely over the next 2-3 years. I think Thornton, Livo and Norman have the talent to be 6-10 year backline players at the Blues. Lets see if Pagan "is as good a coach we we know he can be" and get the best out of our backline sooner rather than later...

Whitnall's upside is far better than Hay's upside. Lance having 3 or 4 pearlers a year is a lot better than what Hay would bring us IMO.

Hay if he stayed injury free would be a decent player. The trade could work well for both parties as I think Whitnall can only play his best football at Full Forward and you already have Fevola. Carlton should be trying to trade for a good midfielder to relieve pressure off Stevens. If you could get a top midfield you would see how well Fevola can actually play. He cops too much criticism. Averaging 3 goals a game and the media says he is having a terrible year, only a handful of players are averaging over 3 goals per game.

thats not a bad deal all up but i think if hay was to go he would go back to WA, got to becareful with whitnall trying to get rid of him coz he still has a fair bit of footy infront of him he would be better off with the change but would kill carlton everytime they seen him kick a bag or something i would keep him just in case.

i dont know if fev and whitnal play that well together in the forward line they need to work something out coz they get in eachothers way a heap, if they were one on one tey would beat any player.
when fev gets ********ty he runs up the ground to get a kick and is less damaging

I reckon Hay would be handy at Carlton, i'd much rather him than Livo. Maybe Hawthorn might want Bowyer and Johnson back? No way would you give up Big Red for him.

Yes, good idea - let's swap an underachieving player who has had injury problems but has won an AA jumper for another one who has been in the same situation.

Great. What's next I wonder? Campo for Bowden?

Seriously though, we'd be better off with Whitnall. More upside, potentially far more dangerous player.

Campo would want to watch himself..i can see him getting sent back to SA the way hes going ;)

I would only trade Campo on two conditions:

1) He wants to leave, and
2) We secure a 2nd round pick for him.

He's been a great servent for our club and I think he should be the one to decide his future. I won't think any less of him if he chooses to leave..

As for Lance, he doesn't get a choice. He's got value and I'm determined to cash him in. Pack ya bags and empty ya desk Lance..

who or what from hawthorn would you guys want for whitnall???

joel smith? round 1 pick?
