Who are the "un-booable" characters of the AFL?

Correct. The most surprising thing about Adam Goodes' comments about it this week was that it affected him so much. Professional sportsmen deal with pressure and scrutiny to an extreme level every week, they can't put up with some toothless ****s doing a little booing? Come on!
Funny how it was this week hey? He really is a politician in training!

I dont have a problem with booing champs in the twilight of their career that are getting a bit slow, stageing for a few kicks and overall getting a bit surly. Its like seeing a blast of the past at suburban grounds.
If you get sensitive about it they'll just boo even more...if u interpret it or take offence they will booo even more.
Zero reflection on anyone and doesnt need to be analysed into some form of social problem.
Just as easy to take it as a sign of respect.

MickeyO had a far far better way.... ignore the booing and abuse, just win the game, and tackle the obesity problem in the west all at the same time.

Highly improbable booing of Goodes is related to racial issues. Yeah.

But not to sidetrack the thread - barring them doing a dog act in a game, I'd say the following would be close to unbooable:
Nathan Jones
Nick Riewoldt
Cyril Rioli (having deeelicious yelled at you is different to being booed)
The Bont
Jamie Elliott
Jeremy Howe
I wish this was the case, as he is one of my personal most respected of all time, but it is surprising how often he gets booed!

I agree with the calls re: Bob Murphy being un-booable, though wouldn't surprise me in time if it did happen from a select few. Bob is not the clichéd footballer, he's smart, articulate, talls about rock n roll etc. Wouldn't surprise if people might become intimidated by this 'hipster' image!

You dont understand why people were questioning whether it was based on race?
If Bachar Houli was getting that sort of crowd treatment I would honestly feel there was ugly bigotry at play. Goodes is a polarizing figure. Polarizing figures get booed. The overwhelming majority of the booing he is on the end of would have nothing to do with his heritage.

From the Eagles I think of the unbooable people as those that look really nice or unassuming.

McGovern
Butler
Xavier Ellis

I'd also add Lecras in there because everyone loves watching classy forwards (similar to Bruest, who ironically gets booed the most)
Could add Hurn to that list.

Well how many other indigenous players get booed?
Why do you assume it was?

It has been raised to be looked into, that's all. It's not as if there are heads on the block. Clearly Goodes is being booed for the right reasons (staging, playing against a rival etc) but surely we can understand why the question was asked. For those that don't know that part of footy it's easy to see why some sections of the community were saying that it's not a good look.

I disagree. While you say 'surely' how can we ever get past this? When can we just look at each other as people if we are asking the question? Funny thing is I thought he, dare I say it, a wog of some sorts,(hey I'm a Pom, I've copped it heaps!) though I had not really thought about it before the shit hit the fan, just wasn't on my horizon.

The best comment here for mie is "how many other indigenous players get booed?"

I boo Judd because he left the eagles and it is part of the theatre of going to the footy - which is a dumb activity if it is not tribal.

I believe Judd is the best player I have ever seen - and I have met him - he is honourable.

when I hear pathetic media spivs say you don't boo champions _ I think what rock are they living under.

We can get past it when Indigenous Aussies feel as though we're passed it. Unfortunately, while definitely on the right track, we're not quite where we need to be with our relationship with our first peoples.

A future where we can tease each other without the pain of discrimination hanging on every word, as we can with Poms and such is where we wanna get to.

I think everyone involved has acted pretty well in this situation. No kneejerk finger pointing. Just asked the question and moved on. That to me says we are on the right track.

Ask Rebecca Wilson and Patrick Smith if they believe that.

It's coz we would have a major issue to work out if it was racially motivated. It isn't and we move on. You can't blame anyone for asking the question, it would be stupid not to.

Unbooable for me
- Mundy/Matt DeBoer
- Pendles (considering who he is captain for, the amount of games played and his standing in the game, this is some feat!)
- Mcveigh/Parker
- Van Berlo/Sloane/Thomspson
- Rockliffe
- Simpson
- Cooney
- Griffin/Ward
- Taylor/ Enright
- Ablett
- Langford/Spanger
- Jones
- del Santo/Swallow
- Boak/Hartlett/ Wines
- Maric
- Armitage
- Mcgoven/Schofield
- Murphey/Bont

Griffen and Ward are definately boo-able.

Griffen is so boo-able she is almost meat pie-chucking boo-able...

Dirty pig shooter scum bag
