After a rather brave call by a certain fan that "most" fans don't care about VFL and that Collingwood were the first premiers. Do YOU care?

For sure love this history of the game. Born and bred in Queensland but grew up on the winners and c7 coverage and cannot read enough about it, even for non football fans its a great social history. To me the heart of the game is still in Melbourne, I think I was the only person north of the tweed who knew were BUCKLEY was coming from all those years ago.

the old VFL, is what made the current AFL. Plain and simple. The SANFL did not, the WAFL did not. It was the initiative (excuse spelling) of the VFL to expand the competition into a national sport.

and just for the record, collingwood were not the first premiers in any form of the league.

Fitzroy won the first grand final, essendon were the first premiers in the old VFL, and Hawthorn were the first AFL premiers in 1991. 1990 was the last VFL season, which collingwood were premiers

I don't care about it but I will acknowledge that it is what became the AFL.

I don't normally care about any history really.

You should care about the history of the VFL because it laid down the foundations of the modern AFL. Without the VFL and Ron Barassi's ambition (he suggested the idea of a nationwide competition), the drama and passion of the AFL wouldn't exist.

Coming from someone whos club was one of the original 8, I care about it a great deal. It's what built the game into what it is today. It's fascinating to read books about it and understand more about the game and your club. I never tire of reading about VFL/AFL.
