Hi guys!!
I went to the game, was wet, cold and great!!
But I cannot work out who they are going to drop for Stokesy, especially because Gamble was good today.
I'm a huge fan of Stokesy so do not want to see him play in the seconds.
Any thougth?

I'm not sure who he will replace but stokes will come straight back in,he will be needed next week with the Geelong small forwards V's Collingwood small forwards

Really tough one unless someone is injured. The options for me are:

1) Taylor - has been terrific but of all the defenders has probably consolidated his position the least. Also, being new this year is the easier choice to drop. That said, I think we need his height to counter Rocca and Cloke. We can probably cover with some of the other medium height defenders but Taylor just gives us a bit more height.

2) Rooke - didn't see the Brisbane game but sounded like he played very well. Seemed a little quiet today and has definitely been down on form overall this year. Bomber has shown that he is prepared to drop Rooke already so this is a definite option. However, as with Taylor, we could really do with Rooke's grunt around the ground and his flexibility to fill in in defence, midfield or forward.

3) Stokes - Bomber has consistently shown a reluctance to drop players who are performing. Perhaps he will leave the team as is until form or injury provide an opening for Stokes. This would send a great message to Stokes and the rest of the team that their place in the team is precious and not to be taken lightly. That said, Stokes has been fantastic and is probably ahead of a few in the team.

4) Gamble - I have loved what Ryan has added to our team. Can take a good grab, knows how to find the footy and kicks goals. However, as with Taylor, as one of the new kids on the block his place in the team is probably not as settled as some of the more senior players. Hard to drop him on today's form though.

5) Anyone - this may be a good opportunity to give a player who has been trying to shake off a niggling injury. Particularly one of the players who played in the Vic v DT match last week and didn't get the week off. Milburn and Johnson come to mind. That said, we don't want to take the Pies too easily. Although if you consider that Stokes is coming into the side it's not like the side is being significantly weakened.

Bottom line is that it is a very tough decision. None of these options (and I'm sure there's more) is clearly better than the others in my view. Good thing is that we will have a very strong side to line up against the Pies. :)

I think it's Gamble, sometimes with the younger players its not always about form and much like Blake late last year being dropped is simply about the best 22 for what the club is trying to achieve. In Blakes case it was about getting miles into King "just in case"... In Gambles case it may be to see how we look with Stokes and Chappy closer to goal...

I'm not sold on it, and I'm biased as I love Rooke and I don't stop dribbling on about how important it is to play Harry week in week out...

Great problem to have, it's actually ashame that Varcoe didn't finish off todays game the way he started or he could also be providing some real pressure...

none of the above...i think hawkins needs to be dropped, i just think a week off would be good for him. Let him run around in the magoos, kick a bag and have some fun.

Anyone thought that he may have to come back through the VFL to be shown a spot in the Seniors has to be earned, and not a right but a privilage?

Not for a moment, he's more then earned his place in the team, been one of our most consistent players all year, a dead set cert to come straight back next week.

I've gotta agree with that. Hawkins is probably he most obvious. I know conditions didn't favour him today, but Gamble and Stokes are both in better form at the moment.

While I agree with you in some cases, stokes wasn't dropped due to lack of form or bad attitude or anything; he was suspended. Not to mention he has been very consistent since about the middle of last season. It was obvious we missed him a bit today; he would have charged up in the wet.

Can't be Taylor, need him for the Pie talls.
Can't be Rooke, his last two games have been his best this year.

Agree with this.

Also think Rooke will be important against the Pies given they'll no doubt try to make it a lockdown, shitfest again.

I've no idea who should go out next week.
The resting Hawkins idea is solid, although with Collingwood's average tall defenders, it might be his chance to kick a few goals.

Good position to be in, although i don't envy the selectors this week.

If its wet i'd agree with the Hawkins suggestion. Although if its dry he should definitely stay in. He loves the MCG and would probably line up on Brown which is a contest he would win IMO.

Can't drop Hawkins and have Gamble and Moons as key forwards. I know gamble has been good deep but he's been good deep with Mooney and Hawkins in the side with 2 defenders to cover them.

Hawkins not kicking a bag in the 2's and loosing all confidence and that is a huge risk in my opinion. He's been good in a lead up role, went missing a bit yesterday but it was a wet day.

It absolutely will NOT be Hawkins. You can't drop your full-forward for a rover. It's insane.

The unlucky omission will be either Gamble or Rooke. Stokes has to come in for one of them. Probably Rooke on form.

That seems about right I'd say, the other option may be to re-jig things a bit and replace Hunt who seems to be struggling, but that would mean altering the balance of the side slightly and I'm not keen on tampering with things when we're winning.

Going to be interesting long term if we're lucky enough to have a full squad to choose from, one of either Rooke or Gamble will most likely miss out at the business end of the season.

Impossible to pick who to drop. I think we have more depth down back then we do up forward, so the logical change would be:

Out: Rooke
IN: Stokes

Scarlett -> Rocca
Taylor -> Cloke
Harley -> Medhurst
Enright -> Thomas
Hunt -> Davis
Milburn -> Whoever

We can then rotate guys like Corey, Enright, Wojak, Mackie if we need. We aren't short of defensive options. And well we all know how good our midfield is, so Rooke wouldn't be needed there. (Stokes has been good through the middle as well.)

The only role we could see Rooke get would be to be used as a defensive player on H.Shaw. But I think Stokes, Milburn or even Mackie could be used in a similar role to great effect.

Its a fantastic situation to be in. I really feel for Rooke because he has done nothing to warrant being dropped.

I'd be slightly concerned about Harley on Medhurst rizzo.

True but he has a good history on playing on blokes that are smaller than him and giving them a good pantsing.

He has dominated Motlop and Corey Jones recently. Think he played pretty well on NJ Brown yesterday and if my memory serves me correctly he has played on a few other smalls this year.

Also gave (I think) matera a fair toweling a few years back.

Medhurst is a typical Mark and Lead player. Harleys strength and positioning will see him get the job done with medhurst getting 4 touches:D

I thought Motlop's two disposals in the Granny were good ;)
