if you people think we should win any of our last two games use are all ****** kidden yaselves. Why not have these youngesters ho are going to be good, waite simmo etc, as well as the draf picks. They mean the world to our future, especscially after loosing then in 2002. Throw in ellis who is the clone of luke power and another midfielder or forward and th future would look even brighter. think about it people. 3 days after we beat essendon we would have already forgot about it, then the reality will set in of what we just lost. the year has been that bad wh needs to win the last two.

The importance of the PP is the fact you get 2 kids in the top 10 not 1.

It's the simplest and easiest way to top up your list with promising young players, rather than having to revert to picking up recylcled players.

Is the maximum you can win 5 1/2 games before you are inelligible for the priority pick or is it 5 games?

Don't loose sight of the big picture here...........reality is we've won 4 1/2 games.

* Lucky to beat Essendon in round 2- but a good comeback win nonetheless.
* drew with Port - unlucky not to win.
* Beat Hawthorn by a goal - whoop-d-doo.
* Beat Richmond - they have struggling big time in second half of year. Richo injured early in game. No Brown or Gaspar either.
* Beat Collingwood - no Rocca, Tarrant, Fraser - put those guys in their forward line and we're going to struggle to stop them.

Fact is, none of our wins have been against "finals" opposition. Whilst, I never want to see Carlton loose games, I honestly believe we can't afford to win another game this year. If we hadn't have lost our draft picks a couple of years ago, then I'd be all for winning these final two games, but fact is we still need to look at the big picture.

* We are going to lose Kouta, Campo & Skinny to retirement sooner rather than later - our midfield compared to the good teams, lacks depth at the moment, even with those three. Bentick, Simpson & Carrazzo are nice players coming through, but are they the top notch midfielders you need to win Premierships? Not, in my opinion.
* Thornton and Livingston are still young KPP, who struggle against the big quality forwards at present. They have room for improvement, but we still need another big body down there IMO.
* Forward line looks OK going forward. Fev, Fish, Waitey & Eddie are the foundation of a decent forward line structure. Could use a bigger body down there as well to add some bash and crash.

IMO, we need the Priority Pick this year to help plug these obvious gaps in our side. We'd be well on the way to plugging these gaps if we could get two decent midfielders early in the draft.

We've been through absolute hell these past 4 seasons, so we might as well take advantage of the system (Priority Picks) whilst they are still available.

They've worked wonders for St Kilda & Freo, and the Hawks will see the benefits in a year or two as well.

Totally agree WTTF. The big picture is spot on. A lot of people are kidding themselves here. 4 and a half wins and now we should be aiming for 6 and a half according to some. My question to these people are when do they expect to win a flag without the cattle? Is that not why you play footy?

Why would you want to make a daunting task for the future even longer? Obviously a lot of supporters would be content on winning maybe, mmm, lets say 7 or eight games next year.

We're not talking of 2006 being a premiership! I think Bentick, Simpson, Waite, Fisher, Betts, Bryan, Thornton, Livingston, Carrazzo and Walker are coming along nicely. Next year hopefully Hartlett, Raso, Smith, the O'hAilpins, Becker, Blackwell and Russell emerge. Some of our kids are playing really well and they now are starting to beleive they belong at AFL level. They dont want to just fill in, they want the KP and midfield roles. When we get some good kids in this years draft and probably at the end of 2006/07 we can then see exactly what these kids will be like. They are enthusiastic and play modern footy like Cooney, Griffen, Cross, Tambling, Deledio, etc. They run and dish it off better than Kouta, Campo, Houlihan, Scotland and Lappin, maybe even Stevens. These older guys are still great for us but the fresh youthful enthusiasm and knowledge of how to run and carry and share the ball is better. Our possession rate is going up every week, over 320 i think this weekend against the Pies. This started as soon as the kids started playing more midfield roles and Camp, Kouta, Lappin and Houlihan werent.

Therefore, these kids could be better than some others who have matured early. Simpson, Waite, Livingston, Thornton, Fisher, Norman, Davies, Walker, Blackwell, Fevola, Bryan, Deluca, Russell, Carrazzo, Bentick, etc are probably considered to be late developers. Dont be surprised if these kids turn out just as good or better than your Cooneys, Deledios, etc.

reminder- geelong have not had a PP and have a truck load of talent on their list[

and how many years did it take them to get to this stage? Put a Cooney or Griffen in their side instead of Tenace, makes a difference doesn't it.

A could of decent Father and Sons have helped their cause as well.

Yet there no closer to winning a premiership are they.......just compare them with the saints. Huge difference in talent

We need to give ourselves the best chance to rebuild.

What about Adelaide?

Wait till they play the saints and then we'll see ;)

BTW...Adelaide have had an extremely good run with injuries so far this year (until Hudson)........so with him out it will be interesting to see how they go

The only way we will win a premiership in the next 10 years, if we get a genuine star, a match winner, a leader who sits above the rest and makes the opposition tremble in fear, likes such as Carey, Hird, Voss, Akermanis, or a Judd etc. No one in our team resembles these types of players. Fevola nope, Fisher nope, Waite maybe but i dont think so.

If it means we get the spoon and a PP to have a good chance at picking up a player who can take us to a flag in the not to distant future then so be it.

We got some good young players at the moment but they need a superstar to lead the way.

Lets just hope the recruiters get it right!

And trade whitnal. With his body he will be slower than a turtle in 2 years time. By 29 he will be finished, too slow for the forward line(backmen running off him like there is no tomorrow) and too slow for defence unless he plays as a loose man in defence... what finals side does that.

The blues need to think long term and start their premiership campaign for 2010-2015. We wont win won before then and who cares looking back on 2005 as wooden spooners if it brings in the future silverware.
