Kaz,
I would have not selected Mark Waugh. I still stand by that after his 100 in Perth.
The selectors continually use the excuse of not changing a winning side but dropped the player who led the averages in N.Z for Ponting. The theory of can't change a winning side I disagree with , in my mind it is the ideal time to replace under performing players. You obviuosly have some very inform players when you are winning so minor changes are for the better.
Mark Waugh is the second oldest of an ageing side (by 12 minutes) he has underperformed for the last 2 years on the whole & must be surely the most tainted charachter among the team.
It has also been interesting to watch Steve Waugh declare him in the team before the selectors have met for the 1st test (also the boxing day test last year ) leaving the selectors a big job to drop him as it is clearly against the wishes of a succesful captain.
The averages listed in the Australian yesterday for the 12 test run had Martyn 2nd to Ponting. The other intersting one was Warnes average of over 30 v MacGill (who does have the advantage of bowing to arguably the most inept side in history). It does though lead to the question of whether MacGill should retain the spot over Warne - remember when they have played together MacGill has always been the better performed.
