Kaz,
I would have not selected Mark Waugh. I still stand by that after his 100 in Perth.
The selectors continually use the excuse of not changing a winning side but dropped the player who led the averages in N.Z for Ponting. The theory of can't change a winning side I disagree with , in my mind it is the ideal time to replace under performing players. You obviuosly have some very inform players when you are winning so minor changes are for the better.
Mark Waugh is the second oldest of an ageing side (by 12 minutes) he has underperformed for the last 2 years on the whole & must be surely the most tainted charachter among the team.
It has also been interesting to watch Steve Waugh declare him in the team before the selectors have met for the 1st test (also the boxing day test last year ) leaving the selectors a big job to drop him as it is clearly against the wishes of a succesful captain.
The averages listed in the Australian yesterday for the 12 test run had Martyn 2nd to Ponting. The other intersting one was Warnes average of over 30 v MacGill (who does have the advantage of bowing to arguably the most inept side in history). It does though lead to the question of whether MacGill should retain the spot over Warne - remember when they have played together MacGill has always been the better performed.

But i think i would like to see Hodge in the side. Bout time another Victorian got back in the test side.

My 3rd Test Side

G.Blewett (Still Dont Like Hayden Being There Even After 69 Runs)
M.Slater
J.Langer
M.Waugh
B.Hodge (Martyn Will Get It Thougth)
R.Ponting
A.Gilchrist
B.Lee
S.MacGill
J.Gillespie
G.McGrath

12th Man I.Harvey

If Australia didn't have Hayden, then West Indies might have won. He scored 69 and he also took catches that no one else probably would have taken. If anyone goes out of the side, it should be Langer. He doesn't deserve the spot in the team.

It would be unfair to Martyn if he didn't get picked. He's in the unfortunate position of being Australia's 5th best middle order batsman behind the Waugh's, Ponting and Langer.

I wouldn't mind seeing Katich in there though, playing a one-off against a fairly weak side on a batsman-friendly Adelaide Oval would be a good place to blood him.

Harvey isn't a realistic option, we don't need an allrounder. We have Brett Lee filling that job quite nicely at present.

Damien Martyn without a doubt.
Hey Mags mate. How could you choose Greg Blewett over Hayden when he has scored 44 and 69 this summer? And with his 44 in Brissy, he was run out by Slater when he was hitting the ball very well at that stage and looked threatning.

M.Hayden
M.Slater
J.Langer
M.Waugh
D.Martyn
R.Ponting (VC)
A.Gilchrist (C)
B.Lee
S.McGill
J.Gillespe
G.McGrath

12 man: A.Bichel

Coz I have a vendetta i think against Hayden! I dont like him very much! And i cant wait till Elliot gets back in the test side!

I think the selcetors should go for Blewett or Lehmann over Marytn coz they are Sa.

Whoever performs well against the west indies on saturday at Hobart will get the test spot.

Hodge gets a 100 in that his in!

someone correct me if im wrong but blewett has been batting at number three and hasnt really set the world on fire, dont get me wrong, im the biggest blewett fan in australia but i dont think he deserves a spot in the middle order
and if anyone was to come in for hayden then it should be hussey

as for s waughs spot i would love to see hodge or katich get a crack but martyn deserves it, no doubt

how about trying something and giving symonds a shot, play an all rounder
although martyn is pretty handy with the ball

my money is on martyn
