Classiest mid available, full stop period
Went overboard (though long overdue) on talls last year
And when you really think about it apart from MM and BG we have few stand out gun young mids coming through
Curnow is terrific but not blessed with pace, Armfield is tough and quick but lacks nous and skill, Ellard is tough but slow, Robbo lacks polish/poise, Lucas is a good runner but in my view lacks that elite level class that I am thinking of.
Russell and Yazz could go on ball one day perhaps but right now they are needed down back and I suspect they will stay there for most of their careers - every team needs a gun re-bounding defender like Yazz
You can never have too many elite class mids

Dylan Riley is one I've had my eye on for a few years. Was only playing country under 16s in 2009 then went to South Launceston in the statewide league last year and really came on, finished 2nd in their seniors B&F. Form this year has been outstanding, been in the bests in every game he's played for South as well as BOG in the Mariners first game and second BOG in their game on the weekend. On a massive upward curve and one to keep an eye on in the national carnival.

Other Tasmanians to watch are Jimmy Webster and Julian Dobosz.

I would like us to draft Jonathon Patton :D

What type of player do people want?
Any kids standing out so far in the TAC Cup, or their local comps throughout Australia?

See if we can keep all of the discussion contained to one threrad.

Do u have a view?

dylan buckley more mid/small back/small forward to help with depth

maybe trade for a mature big backman like brian lake whom i assume is out of form due to being unhappy with the bulldogs atm.

i would suggest just finish off our depth and any last resort needs we have for an assault on the flag. once we have that we need to draft for that age of depth/ next flag attempt after this one.

The best available!
A mature age key forward? :D

Well we will pick up Buckley who is a small half back/midfielder who at this stage is more likely a 2nd or 3rd rounder because of injury and a lack of exposure during the Champs as a result. Well that's what I'm hoping anyway.

As for Curnow, yes he lacks elite pace but he doesn't need it as an inside mid and he is hardly McLean slow. He is an elite inside mid prospect IMO.

I'd like to look at some versatile tall-ish mids who can go through the flanks and play on ball. We also need another KPF prospect and maybe another project ruckman but that could be one for the rookie draft.

Our key forward prospects are Hendo, Mitchell and Casboult so it's still relatively thin when you consider that Waite is already 28.

When it comes down to draft day though, I would take best available with our position in the league being quite strong ATM.

Keep in mind that we have already committed to Buckley.

easy. the best available player. i know this is a simple view but the facts are our first pick will be around 22 (give or take).

Also our team is quite even across the board, (maybe a little light in the forward line) therefore we can recruit any kind of player and only play him if he's needed/good enough.

You're stuck in 2009/10, we have the pieces in place and unless a mature defender came very cheap we won't bite on that.

Jamison is bordering on elite as a KPD and along with Bower we have another solid defender who needs the chance to show how good he actually is, just as Jamo did.

Then we have a few great prospects like Watson and McCarthy especially. McCarthy is the one I'm excited about he's athletic, skilled and has a great physical frame to build on. He needs time though, he has very skinny legs and upper body but he should fill out in a similar fashion to Ben Reid.

With Watson and McCarthy we have a duo that will compliment each other with one being able to take the big bodied power forward and the other taking the athletic power forward.

Given the pick that we'll have you're dreaming if you think we'll get a classier midfielder than Lucas with it.

Yep, don't think defenders will be too much of a priority this year unless a beauty slips through similar to Lucas v midfield debate in 2009.

Waiting for C4[do]doro's opinion
I wouldn't know at this stage ... I attend under 18's games and normally just play on my iphone or chat up the canteen girls (can you beleive I get paid for this?! :D)

... I think I'll do the usual thing - and just wait until the BigFooty mock draft is released, and then I'll sit down with Hirdy and Bomber the night before the draft and give my opinions on who we should select based on the amateur write ups after each selection.

The next Rich or Talia
Michael Talia! (brother of Daniel)

I agree with that but im just concerned about bowers injuries last thing we need is him to go missing in September. He does have ability though.

The issue with waston mccarthy is they do need time they will be awesome in a couple of year but for 2012 i think we just need that last piece.

As i said before bowers body worries me not his ability. until i see him string a a fair few games together im not sold we can rest our premiership hopes on him.

I'd be happy with another mid. Can't have enough good mids.

Don't reckon we need much more for a flag assault other another pre-season for some of the young'uns and some game time into the likes of Hendo, Krueze and Bower.

Exactly, I'm not liking this trend of perceiving Lucas as anything other than a great prospect. He's not the first player to struggle in his second year and there have been reasons for this.

He's struggled with injuries and a new running technique which IMO, could have something to do with his off kicking skills lately.

Not every player dominates from the get go.
