Who were you most sad to see leave Collingwood over the years?

Re: Who were you most sad to see leave over the years?

Nice sliding doors though, move from #10 Rupert to Pendlebury. I'd take that trade any day of the week.

Caracella in between though, although I was a fan until Tim Notting ended his career...and Brett ****ing Allen thought it was play on....

On Betheras, just checked out his Wikipedia page, and Hoggy I think this quote is for you:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Betheras

He was delisted at the end of the season and the Collingwood fans are still unhappy with his delisting, as he was a fan favourite.

Freaking heck still unhappy 8 years and a flag later, some Magpie fans never heal!

:D

And I didn't even write that quote!

Graeme Wright - end seemed to come to quickly and should have won a Brownlow in 1990.

Also Clement, as others have said - still had so many games to play.

And Rusling - obvious reasons, so much talent, so sad that we all saw so few games of it.

Heath going at the end of 03. stupid decision to cut him.
Davis going to live in Sydney
M. Clarke going back to Ireland, buying our own bloke back is a joke btw.

All of these guys were worthy footballers at the time. not nearing the end.

Bolton leaving is a stupid decision just to let him leave too!!!!!

I'll expland on my Sav Rocca post from earlier.

At the time I was shocjed we delisted him and filthy. Then when we didn't even seek a trade I sort of got over it and figured he was injured and wouldn't be picked up. For him to go on at North for nothing after being our leading goalkicker 7 years straight just broke my heart, he was the last Pie I saw kick 10 goals in a game. He was then 3 time leading goalkicker at North and hsis totals would have won ours 3 more times.

Kicked 250+ goals in ~120 games for North when he could have been running around for us. Imagine Sav in the 2002 and 2003 teams (especially 2003 after his baby brother got rubbed out!) - that is what hurts the most.

A forward line with Sav in the goalsquare, Pebs at CHF back in his mobile ruck/forward days and Tarrant as the 3rd stringer!

Still filthy about it. MM's biggest blunder in his time at the club.

Yep, one of Micks moments of madness, sacks Sav and brings in Cummings lol.
God what joke, big Sav could have been one the greatest players of all time,he had it all size ability and a great kick he moved better and kicked the ball better than both Dunstall and Lockett and really if anyone had sorted him
he would have been up there with blokes.

Sav was one of my favourite players of all time and if he had some mongrel there would be no stopping him he is also the bloke I was most frustrated about as well, what might have been.

Re: Who were you most sad to see leave over the years?

Craig Starcevich.
Was my favourite during the early 90s. Had his number and even got his signature at a primary school fair.
To be fair, it didn't take long to get over it tho when I saw his replacement play :p

Who? Dermie?:D

Re: Who were you most sad to see leave over the years?

There's a lot around and there have been some very good ones gone before their time.

However, if I was to choose one that ticked all boxes....wonderful team man.....played to and above his ability.....never shirked a contest....ran all day.....could do what others couldn't.....recognised as a champion by his peers and supporters alike.

Number 42

John Greening, could do anything on a football field. Absolutely mesmerized his opponents, could tear a side apart in 15 mins of footy. Gone far too soon.

I've heard that from a lot of footy fans.
I only started watching VFL in about 76/77 on the Winners (I'm in Perth)and missed out on seeing him play.
My old man used to say he was unbelieveable and could have been one of the best.

I remember that game, I was there. He didn't even get a free kick, did he?:eek::mad:
He was nearly paralysed for christ's sake.

I agree with Clement, Betheras, both Roccas, Presti, Lockyer,Bucks

Here you go rusty - it's only a shortish clip but gives an idea - remember this is early '70's when players were nothing like the professional athletes of today.

Arguably his best game was in '72 against the Cats

35 kicks
11 handballs
10 marks (mostly contested)
6 goals

That was in a side with McKenna the full forward kicking 12 for the game and Jerker Jenkins kicking 5!

Greening would be a walk up start in any side today.

Cheers Jon.
That was excellent.
He definately had the skills needed to play today. His left foot snap from the pocket reminded me of the one Aker kicked against us in the GF.
Shame his career was cut short by a cheap sniper shot.

My old man still can't really talk about what happened to Greening, it's too upsetting. Adamant that he was on track to become a club champion.

For me, Paul Williams going wasn't fun. Loved those goals on the run.

Jimmy going from the next skipper to see ya later wasn't fun at all. And Medders just left too soon.

I agree that Daics was treated like crap, rather than the enormous respect he deserved.

But the worst for me was seeing Micky McGuane in blue and a shadow of his former self. That was a dark day.

Bucks - I was absolutely shattered, his number was on my first jumper, and he was the first badge I got too.

Jimmy Clement, Presti, Neon, Lockyer, Rocca, Licca and Taz - but he came back :D

Brett James.
Played in the midfield for the reserves (when they were around).
Then when he come into the seniors played forward pocket.
Never understood that.
Devastated when he was delisted.
Picked up by the Crows and played in 2 premierships.

Obviously Jimmy Clement for me, came out of the blue, whereas everyone expected Bucks to go. Also was hoping last year Rusling could have another crack, but not to be....

Regarding Buckley, most people could sense his time had come to an end, didn't really hurt much.

Clement's was a shock, to be honest the way he was going he could still be playing now, he was a bloody star, and I'm glad he isn't forgotten around here by the Pie faithful.

However Leon takes the cake, I don't think it has really sunk in. He has left without recognition in the media and by the club and that is annoying in a way, eh has been a great player and we won't see a player with his raw talent and ability in front of goals for a long time. I think it'll sink in when we don't see Leon walking out with the number 1 on his back. (As you might be able to tell, I'm shattered!)

I would have found it far more upsetting if he played good football in Blue, at least there was the cold comfort that it was a complete disaster for Carlton

I agree that the only thing worse would have been for Micky to play well for the filth, but that's cold comfort indeed!
