what are luke stantons chances of getting picked up, tall rangy type of player, needs to work on his kicking but his game at Casey Fields, I saw him come on in the second quater and dominate, had 7 - 8 touches in the quater, and worked hard for the rest of the game, was really impressed, pushed forward, kicked a couple of goals, but then also worked into defence into the hole in front of the forwards.

There was always going to be a number of good 18's miss out as some of the 17's were on offer for the last time. The number of 17yo's that were picked were 19.

A few IMO that will def go are Taylor Gilchrist, Casey Sibasado, Zack Sengstock, Riley Milne, Kade Klemke, Jamason Daniels.

Also I don't see the clubs filling up their rookie lists to max just because they can.

Sorry but I can't see Jamie Sheahan or Tom Rockcliff being rookied.

"Rookie" by pure definition to me, means someone who has some part of their game unknown, a more speculative selection with a perceived upside.

Gilchrist, Sibosado, Sengstock, Milne, Klemke and Daniels to me, all have an upside to some degree, either potential growth/size, skills, experience or overcoming an injury.

Sheahan and Rockcliff whilst very good footballers are to me, "what you see is what you get."

Question: Why did team mate Caleb Tiller get drafted who was a far less influential player, whilst Rocky didn't? Answer: Upside!

I just don't see a lot of upside for either, and the recruiters have an very good look at Rocky for 2 years now, and to date just not enough love.

I like the kid, it's not a matter of achievement, just upside.

I was a big fan of Sengstock and he was going comfortably inside my Top 50...until I heard about his Draft Camp results.

its game on, I guess there was never a lot of upside with Jason Porplyzia (who I'm reminded of a lot when I see Rocky) for him to be rookie listed once, delisted and then two years later taken in the PSD. Blokes who can play footy can play footy.

I understand your argument on Rockliff, but I disagree with it. What I can't understand is how you have Klemke definitely going. I quite like him, but he is absolutely an example of what you see is what you get, which you're using against Rockliff.

lol, the Rocky fan club's never say die attitude at its best ;):p

How similar is Rockcliff to Kelly from a few years ago? If I recall right he didn't get rookie listed either despite dominating at TAC level.

Whilst talent on the field is easy for Joe Punter to observe there are other issues that clubs take into consideration.

Certain players slide because they interview poorly or don't present well.
Character, attitude and maturity, are key ingredients in being able to assimilate into an AFL club.

Let's not forget some kids of this age are shy to the point of being introverted.
Many come from quiet country towns.
Sure they've had some exposure to the big smoke but the whole process would be pretty daunting.

When it comes down to the last picks most have shown about the same amount of ability so clubs may be swayed by "character" issues.

Whilst I'm not casting aspersions at any of the names mentioned I simply point out that football ability isn't the only criteria and that may explain a few of the sliders.

Rockliff has similarities to Michael Wundke who is on the Kangaroos rookie list.

Rockliff is a much better player !

Clancee Pearce.

When I saw him play in the NAB Champs he reminded me alot of Graham Johncock off half back with really nice skills.

um....

Klemke was captain of a state team.. was captain of one of the most dominant TAC teams of the past decade. so.. hm.. the kid can play I feel.. a leader. something that always stands out to a recruiter. dont know much about daniels so will not comment.. but Klemke will be rookied IMO..

Rockliff will be rookied aswell, i do agree that he has a sublime ability to read the play, but so he should when his team has so much of the ball, place him in a lesser team, and we will see how he goes. just like any one. would he have dominated like he did if he played for the knights (bottom of the ladder) probably not, would he have been so recognizable whilst he was chasing tails, no, of course people will recognize him, he is a forward who his team mates kick it too.. as said, i do agree. the kid can play, and will get rookied though;)

im not saying klemke cannot play at all he is a very good footballer but just doubting whether of not he has the ability to match it at afl level. and yeah good point about the captaincies but leadership alone does not get you drafted. especially in tommy rockliffs case. he has it in buckets but it couldnt get him across the line. also in the 2007 grand final, bushies were smashed but rockys talent shined. he won a stack of his own ball in the middle where others couldnt and if it wasnt for his bad kicking on the day, could possibly have kicked 7

Wundke's now been upgraded to our main list. He kicked 40-50 goals in the VFL this year so he goes alright.

Burgan made a point in his phantom draft that people can't speak highly enough of Rockliff in relation to character, so presumably there's not an issue there.

It would be amazing to think he wouldn't get a chance as a rookie given the fact that despite the perceived negatives there seem to be a number of pretty handy positives as well.

Rockliff has more tricks than Wundke !

Pearce will be rookied for sure.

Don't know if we really need him.

Why was Tom Hill overlooked?

The Bombers need another young ruckman more than we need a key backman. ;)

It was also unique in that of the U16s from 2007, approx 50% were actually eligible for this years draft.

Not sure whether thats normal but a very high number in that carnival were born in the first 4 months of the 1991 year.

i was surprised that clancee pearce and matt deboer didnt get drafted
