Except I must say for having Bock on Franklin, can't be bothered finding any proof, but I've been calling for Bock to take Franklin since before the EF last year, but then I won't rub it in any more.
TBH not only is it Rutten, but for me it's not even close.
sure, it's only hypothetical and I'm glad we have the versatility to go either option depending on the matchups, but if we have to choose...
Right nut would be the first to go.Refuse to answer.... Its like asking which of your children you prefer or which nut youd like to keep
This was my point in posting.A year ago you would have Rutten no questions asked. How fast things change.
We've succeeded with a variety of options at CHB... McGregor, Bock and Stevens have all shown great glipses back there over the last 5 years.
I dont think people actually remember how bad it was before we had Truck at FB. Maybe they should have a look at the results of the month we didnt have him last season. I seem to remember something like... Gherig 5 goals, Lloyd- 6 goals, Pav 6 goals....
I don't think people have forgotten at all.
Rutten is a VERY good defender. I'd rate him the 3rd best in the league this year - behind only Scarlett and Bock. However, he does have his limitations.
He is outstanding against the slower, bigger bodied forwards - Brown, Hall, Gehrig, Lloyd etc. These are the guys who used to rip us to shreds every time when we had nobody but Hart & Bassett to keep them quiet.
However, he does tend to struggle against the more agile and speedy forwards. Welsh kicked 3 on him in the opening game this year, Franklin ripped him a new one in the Launceston game.
Bock has come ahead in leaps and bounds this year, to the point where he is arguably the best tall defender in the league this year. Unlike Rutten, he DOES have the agility to play on the more mobile forwards. However, he is also sufficiently tall and strong that he is equally adept against the "gorilla" type forwards.
What we have at present is the best defensive combination in the league - only Geelong with Scarlett and Egan can even be considered to be close. These two defenders complement each other and give the coach tremendous flexibility with the way he deploys his troops to counter the opposition.
In the past, I would have rated Rutten as our most important player. This year though, I think Bock has surpassed him as our premier defender.

Bock's value is more easily supplanted by a replacement player, as evidence by recent seasons.
whereas we've succeeded with a multitude of CHB's, we've had 1 FB and we've not been able to replace him. whether before his emergence of those times without him.
erm, i think there may be MORE THAN ONE variable impacting on success.
Didnt the crows have similar results in the early 00's BEFORE Rutten started playing FB?
