Yeah I am thinking that and hoping Hammo is wrong. If he is right you would think an announcement isn't far off.

Hammo gets it wrong when he is emotionally invested and he overreaches. He has been pretty much spot on so far during this saga.

I must admit that I used to regard Tudor as one of the most "vanilla" guys in the game when he was playing, a bit like Cheynee Stiller was for us I suppose, which is why I find it a bit hard to get excited by him as a coach. He's had great exposure to a number of successful programs though, so he'd certainly be in a position to introduce some new ideas.

I haven't found a coaching bandwagon worth climbing on yet, so like a few others I'm just hoping that Leigh gets to make the right call.

Probably why he seems to be seen as being a specialty assistant coach at this point.

I can only think an opportunity has come a bit from left field for their to be a delay in announcing this week. The sooner though we get our coach announced, the better.

My only knock on Leppa is that he is a former Lion strangely. Missing Roos had me yearning for a new set of eyes. I trust the coaching panel though...

I'd like to see NOEL MUGAVIN coaching the Lions next year. We need to throw big bucks at him to lure him away from Warrnambool! Being Brownie's uncle, I think he will have an immediate impact on the playing group. The Fitzroy connection is also important.

His name got mentioned a few places seemingly out of nowhere. Then Hinkley comes out and starts talking him up as the next great senior coach. Then Malcolm's comment... All within days of Port being eliminated from the finals.

Senior Coach Update

Brisbane Lions, General Manager of Football Operations, Dean Warren, today said the Senior Coach appointment process has been very thorough and expects the Senior Coach recruitment panel to be in a position to make a recommendation shortly, with an announcement to follow in the next 2-3 weeks.

The Senior Coach recruitment panel responsible for recommending the appointment of the Brisbane Lions’ Senior Coach completed a second week of interviews last week.

For those members unaware, the panel consists of Malcolm Holmes (CEO), Brett Burton (Elite Performance Manager), Leigh Matthews, Peter Schwab (AFL Director of Coaching) and myself.
AFL Coaches’ Association Operations Manager Paul Armstrong, is also sitting on the panel in a non-voting role.

The appointment of the Club’s next Senior Coach is a critical decision for our short to medium term future, hence the involvement of both internal and external expertise on the selection panel.

The process has been very thorough with significant due diligence completed to identify the shortlist of candidates to be interviewed.

The new Senior Coach will be responsible, with the support of our Football Department staff for delivering of our primary objective – to build a highly competitive team capable of genuinely challenging for a Premiership. The shortlisted candidates are being assessed against the following key performance areas:

1. Technical Skills - Ability to develop, articulate and implement a competitive game plan and style of play.

2. Leadership and Culture - Proven ability to manage, educate and develop people (players and staff) by creating a collaborative, motivating and enjoyable environment. Ability to lead and drive a culture that pursues high performance

3. Communication - Effective communication skills with key stakeholders including players, staff, members and fans, sponsors and the media.

To date, the panel has interviewed five high-calibre candidates, with each candidate required to present on the following key areas:

• What they believe to be the role of the Senior Coach?
• What is their coaching philosophy?
• What does a successful playing list look like?
• Where does the lions list sit compared to their ideal list?
• What personal and professional qualities would they bring to the club?

The panel has been left impressed by the candidates’ professionalism and readiness to step into a Senior Coach position.

From here, the panel will further short-list the candidates, which, as you can understand, will be a tough task in itself.

We expect to be in a position to make a recommendation shortly with an announcement to follow in the next 2-3 weeks.

This would be welcome news for everyone at the Club as well as our Members.

Finally, I want to make it known that all candidates have expressed a desire to speak to some of our younger players, who have made their homesickness known, before final list decisions are made.

Think the whole 'no running commentary' line was thrown out the door when the ticket against the board was taken up. The 'no news is good news' saying probably doesn't apply either considering the Voss sacking came out of nowhere. I prefer the communication we are getting rather than hearing nothing at all.

Hope they are looking for honest answers and not a Matthew Knights "overrate the list" answer.

The only reason for the delay is the candidate (Tudor) is still involved with current commitments so cannot be named for leagal reasons until current position was expired.
