This player can't play, this player isn't as good as people think, this person can't coach, this team is shite, this team has a crap culture etc etc etc etc etc etc etc. Almost becoming beyond a joke. Can't we have more positive threads? Football is a wonderful game and the competition is in the best state it's ever been. Players are better than they have ever been. Faster, stronger, more skilled & fitter. And the game as a whole is as watchable than ever.

Lets use this thread to say three positive things each.

1. One positive thing about the game.
2. One positive thing about a team you don't support
3. One positive thing about a player from another club

I will kick start it.

1. The game is in a wonderful state. Despite doomsdayers who say otherwise, the competition is truly national and round 1 was one of the best rounds of football I have ever seen.

2. I really like the way Richmond tried their guts out to the end last night against quality opposition. They were obviously outclassed in the skill department, but never dropped their heads and reamined competitive to the end. If they continue to play in that manner, they will push top 8 in 2012.

3. I love the way Chris Judd just keeps on keeping on. Some people were saying he had lost a bit this year, but he came out and was BOG against Brisbane IMO. He has lost nothing and is just a contested ball beast.

You guys give it a try :)

Because most people who go on forums, blogs, etc are very negative, cynical arseholes. Sadly it is as a simple as that

People just want to come here and hang crap, it's like Journalism, a negative story about someone or something is much more interesting than a good story. People like to read about players or teams being no good or stuffing up. So much easy to sink the boots in and it allows supporters to do what they love doing best, being armchair experts. People can make opinions, can judge, can generalise, and just bag out because its easy.

So you think the general football public are products/victims of the football medias sensationalism and negativity?

Anyway is anyone out there willing to say anything positive about the game, opposition etc. If you can't, why do you dedicate so much of your life to something you clearly don't like

Come on, give me something here.

I also like the fact, we could possibly have 4 of the greatest players of all-time running around at the same time. Ablett, Judd, Franklin & Pendlebury. How good is that!

because society is completely negative these days

no or very little encouragement. there's only discouragement, doubt and negative things to say about anything or anyone.

people are willing to throw all logical thoughts out the window just to put someone down.

makes me sick

i'll say a few things:

1. i like the way one team can't dominate for too many seasons due to draft picks etc.

2. Jack Watts will be a good player, give him time and he will develop and his confidence will grow, hopefully he peaks at the same time melbourne do. also, melbourne aren't as bad as everyone is making them out to be IMO.

3. Judd and Ablett are amazing players

It is quite funny looking at the main board right now. Try to find a thread that's not an attack on a player, a team, a coach or the administration. There's one in praise of Alex Rance and that's about it.

1. Hawthorn are good.
2. Carlton are better.
3. The umpiring is great.

Thank you for being the first one :) I try and start a positive thread and it elicited nothing but negativity from most posters.

Re: umpiring. I jumped the gun a bit watching a couple of games in isolation and thought it hadn't improved. But after viewing most games over the first two rounds, it clearly has. They are letting the players play a bit more, which is a positive for us fans.

I counted 15 super negative threads on the 1st page just then. We all love the game, so we should all focus on some more of the positives of it IMO :)

We are realists.
There are negative threads because there are negative things about our game. No point putting your head in the sound.

- So far this round has been horrible
- Melbourne are horrible and a blight on the AFL Currently.
- The Suns and GWS are no better. Richmond included.
- Players like Scully have been paid way more than their worth.

These are real topics in the AFL.

Its always annoying to see the same usual subjects hijack threads about Carlton with their usual anti Carlton agenda...

I will counter that with logic.

* Last round was one of the best we have ever seen. Granted, this round hasn't been as good, but you will always get rounds like this in any sport.

* The Suns and GWS are long term projects and their inclusion is only going to benefit the game long term by making it truly national. The Giants have only played two games! Give them a break.

* Richmond were immense last night I thought. Super effort. Tried right to the end and showed heart, effort and courage.

* Way too early to call on Scully. How can you even make that call after one game?

Last round was good beause you had certain teams playing each other, Collingwood V Hawthorn top 4 teams, Geelong Freo, etc. This won't happen every week.

The Suns and GWS may be long term projects, but they have robbed us of the top end talent pool. So we expect to see better showings, these kids could be running around in other clubs with senior players and performing well.
Richmond were horrible. Foot skills very horrible. Magpies did enough to blow them out of the water then cruise. Don't kid yourself.

Scully's disposal was very ordinary. If he were any other 3rd-4th year player I would go easy on him, but he has taken the money so he comes under the pressure and expectations of a G.Ablett because he's on that kind of money.

I noticed you didn't comment on Melbourne. You can't put a positive spin on them, can you?

As a supporter of a club (Freo) with Richmond-like tendencies, I am liking the way the Tigers have this new mindset, it's refreshing to see from this great club's current team.

It is great to see. Hardwick is from 3 very good clubs, who all won flags whilst he was there. The tigs were going right to the end, and if not for that 6 minute burst from Collingwood, it could have been a different result.

Freo have looked very good in the first 2 rounds as well. Despite losing this week, they really did dominate the 2nd half and could have easily won the game I thought. Lyon looks to have turned the mentality around at the Dockers. They will be top 6 this year.

There is a lot of negativity on the main board. On the specific club boards there are more positive threads though. Anyway to answer your OP with the three points.

1. The game is a continuous free-flowing game, which I prefer compared to other sports with several breaks and intermissions.
2. I like the way West Coast go about it. Very good forward press, manage to handle 4 big forwards in the forward line very well, got general talent and x-factor in the likes of Cox, Naitanui, Shuey, Darling, Kennedy, Lecras.
3. James Magner. A player who didn't get the opportunity at a younger age to play for an AFL Club is now one of the few Melbourne players doing well.

Because the internet was designed to complain upon. I reserve my right to take potshots at people anonymously and without due cause.

It was literally designed to complain about stuff and share pornography with one another.

1. One positive thing about the game.
2. One positive thing about a team you don't support
3. One positive thing about a player from another club

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. The athletic ability of players today makes for a great spectacle no matter which team you are watching (Adelaide vs. Footscray was awesome to watch).
2. Kudos to Port Adelaide given they showed heaps of character and resolve (take note Melbourne) and have some fantastic younger players coming through. 2012 won't be as short of a year as some people have said I think.
3. Easy done for me to say that my favourite non-Essendon player is Jonathan Brown. Can't wait to see him back on the track again, absolute leader and star and will be a massive reason for the Lions to come back and give the competition hell!

1. Although the defensive aspect will come back into it somewhat, or so I believe, the style of play at the moment is reminiscent of pre flooding

2. I hope to see no standout team for the season, no one team that looks like they should take all before them. It will take time for the dust to settle, but so far it looks like there are 4 genuine premiership hopefuls. So kudos to all of Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn and West Coast

3. Gary Ablett Jr is the best player in the competition

I like this thread :thumbsu:
