Why Didnt Port Want Thomson?

I think the main reason Thomson left / was traded is because of their already fine midfield. Cornes x 2, Burgoyne x 2, Boak, Cassisi, Rodan, Salopek and to a lesser extent Danyle Pearce, where do you fit him in?

Is that any different to Richmond?

Deledio, Cousins, Foley, Cotchin, Richo, Coughlan, Tuck, Tambling and then a cast of depth players such as Jackson, Polo, Johnson, White, etc

Thomson looks like a good player and has a few elite qualities. Currently he's not at a premiership standard, but he should improve.

A lot of people on the Port board were disappointed in Thomson going. I think the train of thought was that he didn't develop enough of an engine, was too slow and his disposal was a bit sloppy. Everyone loved his hardness though and he is great at clearance work. It's a shame he didn't come along as everyone had hoped.

Thommo is clearly an inside mid/ hard ball getter recruited to back up Tuck/Foley/Coghlan (if he comes good). As such, his kicking skills are not as important as his ability to dish off quickly and accurately by hand. I thought he looked very, very promising.

Hislop looked a bit lost. I would reserve judgment until I have seen him have another run.

Very good inside; tackles well and nice quick hands but sooo slow and a pretty ordinary kick; two very big blotches on his game. Couldn't believe how slow he looked at times. In this day and age you need good footskills and pace.

GO TIGES!!!
