Why do people lie about their age?

Some people just get embarrassed, that's all.
Imagine if you told someone you live at home with your parents, and they ask how old you are? You're hardly gonna say 24 or more are you? You'd say 18 or under or thereabouts.

Up until I was 18, (I'm 19 now) I would always say I was one year older than what I actually was.

One year meant so much back in those days, you couldn't be mates with someone if they were 15 and you were 16!

I'm 17. Any idea why I would lie about my age? I also extended my children's ticket life at the footy by claiming I was 14 for awhile.

Who says it doesn't pay to lie?

I never lie about my age. I am 30. Nobody ever guesses my age, most put my age at around 24 or 25 and I ain't complaining about that.
Although when I was 18, it was a pain in the bum to constantly be asked for ID, for proof of age. But now I am older and everyone thinks I look younger, it's not so bad at all!

I am 25 but apparently look under 18 still..... pain in the bum when i cant leave the house without ID, but i aint complaining either, it means when i am actually old i wont look it - its great!!

A few of my mates went to our 15 year school reunion. For some reason, all my mates (and me) look the same as we did 15 years ago - we haven't put on much weight, we haven't lost hair, and we look young. My mates were telling me that there were heaps of people they didn't recognise - guys who looked old, fat, and bald, and hence nothing like what they did when they were at school. There were heaps of people who made comments to my mates like, "Oh my God, you guys look exactly like you did at school. Same group and all"

I often meet people who I imagine are older than me, and then I find out there age.... (and vice versa)

Can't say I have ever lied about my age. No point really as the truth will eventually come out. I met someone the other day and she said I looked 18, when im really 21. Other friends say I look older than 21. I guess it really depends on the other person.

In addition to this perplexing question, why do people lie that they look younger than their actual age?

People think I'm lying when I tell them my real age. People seem to think I'm early 20's though I am actually 19. Doesn't augur well for later on in life I don't think.

Sometimes I meet a 30+ yo who is flattered that a young 21 yo punk like myself is interested in them. Some of these 30+ year olds like to take home the occasional toyboy.

How can you lie about looking younger? If people think you look younger than what you actually are, how can you lie about it?
You can't lie about looking younger if no one else agrees with you.

I have been told that I look no older than 16 by some people. Others tell me that I look like I am 25. One person at TAFE told me that he thought I was in my 30s. I am 22.
