"Centre half-forward is the one … that is the biggest position up for grabs at the moment."

Ratten said a range of players from Matthew Kreuzer, Cameron Cloke, Brad Fisher and Richard Hadley could be tried there..

Seriously none of those other hacks can match Fisher.

Cloke & Kreuzer can start to refine their ruck skills, and Hadley, well I don't know what Hadley is gonna do, he reminds me of a cross between Callum Chambers and Saddington as this stage.........................

Because we don't have one would be the obvious answer.

I think Hartlett will make the position his.

Why has your view on Hadley shifted after just two months?
As we need a strong defensive midfielder, and this will help Houla apparently star in the forward-line like all you geniuses out there believe he will!

Our CHF's wer Whitnall and Kennedy.

They have left.

Hence the position is "up for grabs".

Fisher is far to good at playing around the ground to be wasted as a traditional CHF........not that I think that really exists these days.

What we actually are looking for is a second tall marking option other than Fev.

With Waite pencilled in at CHB, Hartlett seems to be (and not before time) putting his best (or at least, his least injured) foot forward.

But lets wait and see if Harts can actually make it through a full pre-season without tearing something.

Others to be tried:
Cloke - unlikely
Edwards - Rob Murphey type CHF?, but didn't sound like he got heaps of it in the practice game
????

Can't see Kreuzer being asked in his first year, and doesn't sound like the strong lead up type, ??? Setanta?

Still VERY much up for grabs in my eyes.:thumbsu:

Would love to see both Hartlett and Edwards make it. Edwards could play as a leading forward and Hartlett as the traditional CHF who will be the focal point for contests.

Fisher isn't and won't be a CHF.

For ten years we've automatically pencilled in Lance for CHF, and with he and Kennedy gone there is no obvious replacement. A CHF doesn't just take marks and kick goals, he directs traffic and brings others around him into play where they feed off him and kick their own goals. A CHF needs to be creative and have excellent vision. They need big tanks so they can push up and present and yet get back inside 50 where they're most dangerous.

Ask yourself, is Fish that type of player? Or is he a very good FP/third tall who needs to stay close to home?

Austin, Edwards, Hartlett, even Waite are better prospects than Fish at CHF, but most are kids who would struggle in that position. That was the beauty of Lance. He knew where to be and saw the whole play better than anyone.

Our CHF's wer Whitnall and Kennedy.

QFT.

Fish's strength is his ability to move around the ground and get into genuine one on one marking contests where his hands win out. I think to lock him into that CHF role where he's going to attract a second defender in the contest would negate him - he's not quite big enough to play that role.

The bigger question is "Why is he asking Why is CHF up for grabs?"

Our club has been struggling to find a key forward up from the goalsquare since we had Hamill and Whitnall firing in 1999. whitnall was good for a while but I dont think he's played a true CHF for years, his best year coming as a floating role in defence in 2006. Besides 2006 Whitnall really hasn't been a good focal point or in good form for a long time.

Fisher has had to move up the ground often to get the ball for a couple of years now, but Kennedy and Whitnall whilst nominally CHF's aren't really; Kennedy will be or could be but his best performances came close to goal and is still developing, and Whitnall wasnt the player he was in his first 3 to 4 years except for 2006.

We've had one key forward in Fev and a flanker in Fisher for a while now but that doesn't make a forward line.

For mine Waite would be the most natural fit at CHF currently however since it has been quoted he will be based at CHB this year another option is required.

I hope Hartlett will step up and am sure with some confidence he could turn into a very good KPP. Edwards hasn't shown much when it counts although he needs to be given every opportunity to blossom.

Although Fisher is a great player he will never be a CHF - doesn't have the size or bulk.

Cloke doesn't have the mobility, Kreuzer doesn't have the size or experience....bit of a hole for us currently

How about this for an option - get Fev fitter and get him out there. Although I feel he is the best FF in the comp, it may be easier to cover a FF than CHF. What do you think?

I still can't understand why you guys are writing Fisher out of the CHF possie...
I mean we seriously DON'T have ANY other true contender, and besides, CHF isn'[t necessarily a 'locked down' position as some of you geniuses point out. I mean are you telling me Revolt or Pavlovaich are 'locked down'????!! I mean WTF???

Fisher was our second most potent forward player last year besides Fev, and has showed heaps more consistency up forward than our other hope who was Waite. Larnce was just too fat and injured to rely on the role, Fisher actually delivered results and scores. And Kennedy just looked too slow and didn't seem to have the smarts to be a true CHF.

Fisher is the boy, his development over the last two years has been as good as Carrots and Simmo, despite have a knee reco. I reckon with Judd and Stevo feeding him he can truly become a modern CHF, as we don't have any other options at this point, his work rate up forward is far more potent than Houla or Betts or whoever...

And Hadely at this point is an unwritten page, if he's any better than Houla, then he's filled it.

People may scoff at this "Why take him away from an area where he is so dominant".........but I agree.

He has the range to kick from over 50. Has the short passing game and smarts to hit guys on the lead, and lateral , movement is good.

It also means our structure is less predictable and he will get more "one on one's".

I don't think Ratts would have the guts to do it, and I'm not sure Fev has the fitness just yet.........that's a lot of muscle to haul over the km's he'd now be covering - would need to drop 10 kg in muscle............but this is not the dumbest idea and I've thought it previously.

As for legendtofski............try reading people's reasons why they don't want Fisher as the CHF......they make a lot of sense.:thumbsu:

Fisher had a great year; but seriously, we don't even know how good/bad cloke, kreuzer, or hadley will be.
They all have unknown skill status at that position!

kreuzer: first year player, therefore unknown
cloke: showed real promise last year, but got injured as he was getting into form
hadley: coming off long-term injury, therefore unknown

that's prob why he said it's up for grabs.

Simple answer to this one and i havent read through all the post to see if it has been written, but its because we dont really have one. There is not one genuine CHF in our team (not even Waite), he is now playing for W.C (not that i care). For us to go forward this i feel is the only position holding us back from going further

id be more worried about franklin turning up top the games.... he might be doing something involving other white lines cockface..... now run along and go back to the small dark hole that u and everyother hawthorn supporter comes from

carlton have dug a whole so deep for themselves you'll never get out!
u wish u had franklin, you love franklin, you know franklin is in the top 5 best players in the AFL, and it eats u up inside that u cant have him. jelousy is a big factor in the lives of the typical carlton supporter.
seasons greetings wooden spooner! mwaaa
