Is there anybody else??
that even though we lost by more tonight, I don't feel as disappointed as I did last week.. ???

I thought there was some good passages of play... sure not consistent.... and some passion tonight????..... or was it just the wine after not drinking for a while???

maybe it was because carlton played well and even if we did play well we probably would of fell short, but last week collingwood played crap and we played even worse and only lost by 22pts in a game where we should of won if we were on our game.

Yep that could be it..

How quick were Carlton to move it down the ground in turnovers? my goodness!

Maybe because if we had played with the same intent last week we would have won. Also Masten, Ebert, and Swift all showing some promise.

Selwood was good too.. more promising signs from all of the young players tonight then last week definitely

Scott Selwood was the best though! Love him. Took a great mark, aggression, tackles, got some pace, takes them on, chases... Hoping he turns out like Joel.

Carlton did not play that well.

Our skills are atrocious by hand and foot, Our decision making is very ordinary and all i can say is thank god for Mark Lecras.

i thought compared to collingwood last week that carlton played pretty well.

I think because we were all expecting a win last week and all expecting to lose tonight.

I thought we played better tonight, our skills were still absolutely crap (how Broadbridge kept his job last year when they were having a clean out I will never know!) However what I did see was a lot more effort. Tackling was much better, and I swear I saw players shepperding and blocking on a few occasions! I dont think I have seen that all year.

There was a little more feeling out there, dont know if it was just because it was Carlton or not.

My love for the Selwoods grows every week but LeCras is special.;)

How?

Don't get me wrong, he could develop into a very good player but on his performance tonight alone, he was terrible.

Supporters supporting their team??

WTF is up with that?

You're deffinately a glass half empty type aren't you GWS?

No thats bullshit mate and you know it, when are you going to face reality? How it is is how it is? put any positve spin on it you like it does not change the reality. Even you can see that surely. i have read many of your posts and I think you know the game. Why the silver lining all the time? just be honest.

We are very very ordinary, its like watching men V boys against all sides. Very little to look forwad to. But I am sure many on her will find truck loads of positves.

THats what I think too.

Cant really see where this list is going in the near future.

I know after all the kids play 50-60 games we should be better but seems like all the other teams kids are instantly capable of playing AFL.

Plus I think its time for Hunter to say bye bye.

Look at St Kilda though. Tons of young talent but were too small and soft to seriously contend. About 5 years on and they finally look like a hardened team of men.

It's a slow process.

I have faced many things in life tougher than a game of football, and everything gets better with time. I guess that is where I come from. Things dont stand still, change happens whether we want it to or not.

Players will develop. The team will become more experienced. Everyone makes mistakes, but as long as they learn then thats OK. I think they are learning. In fact I think they will learn a lot more from the losses than they would if they had of gotten across the line in a couple of the close games we have lost.

My mother says I have the patience of a saint, maybe that is it?:D

I know the players will improve with experience and I am happy to watch the process unfold.

TBH I felt more pain in one game in 2005 than I did over the whole season last year.

I accepted your view a long time ago!:D

I just dont get why you would put yourself through all that angst if you cant see that it wont always be like this, that we will improve?

As much as I hate to say it, but I am seeing your point of view GWS.

There is not a lot of positives at the moment

We have a great ruckman in Cox, but he lacks support and we can only hope that Natanui delivers on his potential.

Our key defenders are solid - despite Glass having an ordinary game tonight, I think McKenzie and Brown show the makings of a couple of solid key defenders for years to come.

Kerr has no support at all - the opposition can afford to sacrifice a player to just sit on him because no-one else is there to pick up the slack. Masten and Ebert have shown glimpses of what they may become, but haven't yet shown enough to suggest they will defintely become genuine game breaking midfielders.

We no longer have a true shutdown midfielder - Lamb, Pyke, Banfield and for a time Stenglein were all able to play a lockdown role on the oppositions best midfieder. At their best they were also able to find a bit of the ball themselves. We don't seem to have anyone capable or willing to play the sort of game that Joseph did on Kerr tonight.

We don't have a true crumbing forward. Sampi was tailor made for that role but sadly, he didn't have the work ethic for AFL football. Lecras is a small leading forward, and TBH he should be spending more time in the midfield anyway.

We also don't have a permanent tall target up forward. Goes hand in hand with our crumbing forward problem - how can a crumber get himself in the right spot when we don't have a tall demanding the ball. IMO. Kennedy should be played at FF with Lynch at CHF, in time maybe Notte can become a FF with Kennedy moving up the ground as Lynch gets closer to retirement age.

And like you GWS, I'd like to see us play a more attacking type of game - get the ball in to Hurn's hands more often and take advantage of that lethal right foot he has - Hurn form inside D50 to Lynch just forward of centre to Kennedy 30 out from goal - take the mark or bring the ball to ground for the crumber - goal either way.

We might as well take risks because the safe way isn't getting us anywhere

I think McNamara goes very hard. He dive on a land mine. His effort of Fevola was great in the last quarter. Might not have the skills but sure has the balls.

Its not angst mate, its just my opinion. others bag me but I have big shoulders so its no big deal. Most importantly I like talking footy and even though i am critical of Woosha and his methods I want us to succeed like we all do. Other people get more hung up on him getting criticised than I do posting it.

Yes we will improve over time, all clubs do improve with time. Our skills and our plan are our problem. the plan can be improved no doubt. Skills can be tightened a bit but the bottom line is you either have a feel for kicking a ball or you don't. i think our guys are a very poor list of skillfull players.

Why would you hate to say it Keysore? its just an opinion. most think i am way off the mark and thats fine. i know my footy and have been involved for a very long time at a high level. Its still just an opinion. Not right or wrong.
