Why is there no game next Monday?

Monday is a public holiday in WA, SA and Qld, yet there is no game on. Why? Are the AFL admitting that they follow a Victorian agenda?

Because why schedule a game on a day the majority of the target audience will be at work?

Like it or not, Victoria makes up the vast majority of the AFL viewer numbers.

But how hard is it to do a 4:30pm game in Perth?

But how hard is it to do a 4:30pm game in Perth?

Because that would break the AFL rule that every standalone game must be a VFL match up.

Actually, it's probably less a rule, and more that the thought standalone games could be played outside Victoria has never even occurred to them. Then they'd make it a rule.

A few years ago I was looking at making an entire fixture and went to the extent of looking at state holidays to see if there were timeslots we could get a big stand alone game

Next year I'd like to see

Monday May 2 5:30pm - Brisbane vs Essendon at the Gabba
Monday May 30 5:30pm - Greater Western Sydney vs Western Bulldogs at Manuka Oval
Monday June 6 4pm - West Coast vs Fremantle at Optus Stadium
Monday August 1 6:30pm - Gold Coast vs Port Adelaide at Marrara Oval

And either it's a derby between the WA teams using all WA-based umpires, or you'll have one team traveling to Perth on a 4 day break before their next game.

Why don’t we get the fu**in Monday off in Victoria is the real question
Because we get Grand Final Friday off. The Andrews government sees more votes in the GF than an Anzac Day holiday which we miss out on once in every 5 or 6 years

Did Grand Final Friday replace ANZAC day holiday?

Seven/Fox don't want games in those timeslots as it would interfere with their regular programming.
