I am happy to run the gauntlet with him tbh!

If Dusty wants to go we will need more than a first draft pick anyway via FA compo IMO, thats how high I rate him, so we may as well get him under contract. If he wants to go we can always trade him

I have a lot of man love for Dusty but I think many here under rate him.

I think Dusty can be very durable and very handy in the back end of his career even if just sitting forward.

With the way clubs are attracting players with big contracts why should RFC not be a bitch and beat them to the punch offering Dusty a lengthy contract like 8 years or so.

I can see Dusty playing good footy in 8 years or even longer.

Would 8 or 9 years on 900K be too little for Dusty?

If Dusty is not playing through injury we cannot win a premiership anyway so as a key player a long contract would be suitable. We could get good draft picks with an injured Dusty off the field if a worse case scenario presented itself while he recuperates. The fact is heaven forbid, if he gets hit by a bus we will have to do a rebuild anyway so we may as well get behind him long term IMO! Our prospects are effectively all in with Dusty anyway so we may as give him a contract that reflects such a reality IMO!

I wouldn't go 8 years but I could definitely be convinced of 6 years.

Good thats why we should go 8 to show him the faith, we want him and to afford us a slight discount to ward off other clubs. The slight discount also helps us chase other players we need to threaten.

Given Dusty's robustness, in terms of his physical build, I think he can hold it for longer than some others with hew age medical/player welfare support as well with less physical mishaps. I think he can shape his career a little like Mathews in terms of duration.

Any risk to the backend of his career would be mitigated by the fact we would be out of our window by virtue of the fact Dusty's performance would be key to our window!

I just think the club might be smart to use the length of any potential contract with Dusty as a show of faith and loyalty, goodwill and means to extract a little value for the club so all stakeholders including Dusty can benefit from value that can be utilised to bring in the talent we need to enable us to achieve the success we crave!

haven't we put 5 years in front of him?
Plus dont we usually ask players at the back end to take a little less to account for growth in up and comers as well as potential recruits?

Its not about the length or money he wants to see richmond moving forward and not have to sit around for 5 years doing another rebuild and carry the kids we just need to keep playing well and he will put pen to paper
