can Damian Drum not work out that the best thing for the Fremantle Football Club would be for him to just shut up?

For a man who has done less for this club than any other that's been associated with it, he sure knows how to sink the boots in.

There's enough pressure on the club from outside sources without having supposed 'supporters' banging on about things they know nothing about.

Drummy must be the only one disappointed that Leigh Brown isn't still here. Um, I'm obviously missing something because I don't think we traded to get Toby Stribling, he was just the player we took at pick 1296 or whatever was left after getting Josh Carr.
Anyway, Drummy to the Vic National Party for a bag of chaff isn't looking like a bad deal in hindsight:)

How can you take any article seriously that says:

Since 2004, Fremantle has made moves to snare Josh Carr, Chris Tarrant, Dean Solomon, Heath Black and Toby Stribling, as well as drafting recycled Essendon pair Kepler Bradley and Mark Johnson last year.

And I'm pretty sure Dew counts as a recycled player for Hawthorn. Jay Clarke seems about as accurate as Quentin Lynch from 15m out.

How did we trade for Toby Stribling?

I don't remember us trading for him, but otherwise the article was spot on. But yeah, I take your point about the fact we're under the pump as it is without an ex coach getting stuck in.

Exactly. It's not like it's ground-breaking news that some of Freo's trades have been crap. All I can think is that he's desperate for some publicity - there's nothing else to be taken out of this at all.

I actually met Drum last year when I went to Parliament. He said that Freo were going to struggle (this was before the footy season began). He obviously knows his stuff.

Add him to the list of nuff-nuffs who have gotten stuck in to us recently.

I think Schwab was the arcitect of all the recent disastrous trades, and his motivation would've been a marketing one. He needed big names to fool the corporates to get on board as sponsors etc. Got to say its worked a treat, but to the detriment of our on field success.

Glad he's going.

Scham this the most insight post on BF for along time- he wasn't only fooling the corporates he needed the big signings to keep the momentum up for membership sales also. our increased membership was based on the "perception" of greater things ahead. Because the increased membership wasn't based on
continually being in the top 8 but on perception drive very strategically by connolly and schwab - lets see what the membership will be like 2009 & 2010.

I'll admit I was fooled with the Croad and Tarrant deals.:o

You are by no means an orphan on this scham.

Don't forget Dessie and Josh carr were going to Really beef up our ailing midfield

I'm reasonably comfortable with the Carr trade, but I was always nervous about the Headland trade, and to this day nothing has happened for me to think I was wrong, so no, I wasn't fooled on that one.

People might laugh at me, but the Croad and McPharlin for Hodge, other guy who never made it and Mitchell was ok. The problem was that Connelly tried to turn an all australian chb into a ff and attempt to turn Polak from a junior ff into a back.

If things went well we now would have a spine of McPharlin, Croad, Sandilands, Pavlich and Polak. Could have keep Medhurst and just find tuned the forward line a bit.

I never understood CC attempting to turn Croad into something he was not.

I like Drummy even though he was a crap coach. Always speaks well and seems to have a genuine love for the footy club. Carried himself extremely well in 2001 when it would have been easy to fire a couple of cheap shots on the way out considering how poorly he was treated. Didn't have a problem with his comments in the paper today. So he thinks Connolly and Schwab are dicks. Who doesn't?

So why stick the boots in now? He more than anyone should realise the pressure that the club is under now. I'm not saying what he said wasn't in some parts true, but I just don't see how anyone can gain anything from him saying it now?

I don't think he did - he was groomed as a Fwd who might play back a bit at Hawks and he was clearly in the Freo team to be a main avenue to goal. The only problem I had with it is that we stuck to him as a fwd when it became clear it wasn't quite working. In hind sight, I would like to have traded Polak earlier (who we were using as a back) when he had greater currency before Croad and use Croad as CHB as the Hawks do ... assuming he stayed, that would have been a nice outcome. I do vaguely remember him being thrown down back once or twice for us, but it seemed hap hazard without any real 'grooming'.

This is all hypothetical speculation anyway ... and frankly most clubs would find regrettable moves in their recent history. Maybe we have a few more than average :o, but not as many as the media would have us believe.

You can add Brent Guerra to that too. Also, drummy mentions some of the players that have left; well we got pick 13 (used to get Schammer) for Brown; even in Schammer's recent less than average form I would take that every day of the week. It's too simple to say all those trade aways were mistakes/losses etc. I suspect he may be mentioning it because he would have had some personal attachment to them ... maybe.

The article has holes of logic and facts all through it - I don't totally disagree with some of the sentiment though, but another example of second rate un-researched 'jump on the bandwagon' journalism.

I don't see an issue with anything Drum has said. Constructive criticism is always good, it's how you improve your operations. Having this insite from someone who has had a long time to dwell on the so called mistakes he made I think by coming out publically this early in the season and stating this he may very well be standing up for Harvey retaining his job come seasons end should the dockers be wooden spooners. I sure as hell hope Freo don't treat Harvey the same way this time around.

I don't think we'll ever know if Drum was a good or bad coach, because the cattle he had let's face it were pretty damn ordinary!

I think the club is well aware of the Schwab influence, but will never publically state he was at fault for the trades that have occured in the past 5-6 years. There are positives and negatives to what he did. In the end the big question is did he cost Connolly his job?

Add that we traded for Bell, and you've got a pretty good set there. Drum was a shit coach, but we certainly drafted and traded better in that short period than the past 6 years.

so what has warnock done untill now..............
im sure melbourne will give you the no 1 pick for warnock loa
pick 42 or something, played a handfull of games ,cant get a game in a loseing side, doesnt even play ruck in the wafl, needs to put another 15 kg before he can even be considerd a ruckman 3rd rounder at best anything better you are dreaming in a strong & last open draft.

melbourne will get him for zip in the psd or you could get a 40goal a year hff farmer is gone & a replacement is needed.

looks like a more than reasonable trade.
