Player Watch Wil Parker

Parker is OOC at the end of 2026. I like his skills, his toughness and his footy IQ. These traits should help secure his next contract. I had to go a long way to find this thread. I really liked his comments about how good Steele’s training tests were and aspiring to be better than him. The area of weakness seems to be his pace. I am hoping for a huge preseason and for Parker to step up.

Need to extend this kids contract.
Like the cut of his jib.
Smart, skilful and tough.
Will have many suitors soon.

I know he re-signed for a year but I agree we should tie him up for longer. I would have played him in the prelim instead of Howe. He did well against the Crows and Howe struggled against the Lions.

I think it was a correction or a trigger rather than a re-sign. Our list looks pretty stable. Parker, Frampton, Smit, Allan and Chrisp seem the important ones. And veteran resolutions.

Not sure how important Crisp is tbh. He’ll probably resign anyway but he’s on the other side of the hill these days.

Shades of when we were all devo as it was announced that Bucks at the peak of his powers on the field had resigned.
Was it Steve Quartermaine?

Crisp’s value largely depends on his pay grade imo.

If he plays on at a low-senior squad/depth salary, he will be invaluable. If his demands or the market don’t allow us to give him a pay cut, he might not be great value.

We’d have to balls it up pretty badly to get burned by re-signing him, though.

At the point of major veteran transition the almost oldies can have increased value, if performing.

Contracted next year. I reckon we’d be working hard to extend him, especially with our likely retirements in 2026
Given the Australian Test squad hasn't developed a Test quality leg spinner under 30, there's our biggest risk! May Cooper Connolly continue his ascension.

Post playing the QF, he was stiff to miss the Prelim.
Just look at this young man's poise in his 5th game, moving through half forward to slot truly. NB his ability to read the play, lose his man to move into space and give us an avenue into goal (somewhat appositely, given it was Sidey that gave him the handball).
I reckon he's the incumbent to Sidey and one we’ll enjoy watching his untapped potential develop through 2026, and surely to be mentioned regularly in despatches. Minimum internal accolade he should be pursuing this year is the Harry Collier Trophy.

Wil Parker first goal

(& bless those young chaps in the crowd signaling the goal)

Probably doesn’t come as no surprise I am a big fan of this kid and I thought he had a pretty solid game on Sunday, so I’m going to bump his thread.

He got to the right spots and put his body on the line while keeping Higgins pretty quiet. If he can tidy up his foot skills we’ll have a pretty handy small defender imo. Hope he plays the whole year in the 1’s.

Wil kept the aints tip rat to one goal. He also played his role in making it verhy hard for their forwards to get a clear run at the ball.
His kicking needs improvement, but it will improve with more exposure to the level of pressure...
Not the first defender who started out with poor kicking (I still remember those young Maynard kick ins) though as long as he kept his opponent limited, then he holds his spot.

He had that shocking turnover late in the first quarter and then followed it up immediately with a strong intercept mark. Didn't give up.
