No speculating on alleged 'rumours'

Thanks all!

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

This was probably Carlton’s thinking 2 years ago when we left the Suns and we gave him a second chance to play.

We need to move beyond placing the responsibility on the club, his brother Ollie or any one else for the success of his recovery - there’s been no shortage of that.

It’s time he steps up and takes full responsibility, hopefully he is and comes out stronger.

I agree the responsibility is squarely on Elijah to step up.

However I like the stance the club is taking, they are clearly thinking about culture.

Culture is a shared system of beliefs, values and behaviours. If a club can help people come together and achieve this, they are on the right path.

AFL clubs have lost the community aspect over the years, revenue generation does that. But if the mighty blues can go back in time a bit, help blokes out, maintain standards, demand excellence along the way in return for being on the list, I believe it will go a long way to seeing us succeed, something we are all desperate for.

The easy path would have been to get rid of him, so many here would have taken that option.

The AFL world is watching what’s going on, if this works out for the best, it will be viewed favourably by all. If not, we can hold our heads high and say, we tried.

Either or the club wins.

Come on Elijah, prove the haters wrong, prove to yourself your worthy, pay your debt to the club and become the champion your destined to be.

Bailey Smith arguably coming from further back than EH give the ACL - was third in the brownlow.
Mitch Clark a while ago had his issues.
There's been plenty of players make it through rough patches.
EH has mentioned his ACL injury as something that derailed him on his journey into the AFL, prob affecting him more than a more mature (and professional) Bailey Smith.

Talent is only good for the team if it's on the field. Either 1s or 2s.

Please refer to Marchy and Cunera.

So Lij training well confirms he has talent but doesn't confirm he can be relied upon.

Call will be made very much closer to SSP deadline and will not be made on talent alone.

Good luck Lij and Will. And anyone else in consideration between now and then.

Well said BG

I was at club for training and asked about SSP. Same comment all the time from different people. No one knows how it will end up and both EH & WW will be given every opportunity to earn a spot

Whoever gets it will have earned it but there is a long long way to go.

Only time will tell and none of us including the club know how it will end. Simple

When he said doing his ACL derailed his start in the AFL career rather accept that his own lack of professionalism/drive lead him to make bad choices.
It was referring to the beginning of his career at the Suns where he took a bit longer to come back from his ACL than most.

He did it during the COVID era which meant he had no access to high performance staff, massage therapists, proper gym equipment etc and had to complete majority of his rehab in his garage at home.

Not sure how anyone could have an issue with that insight.

I just dont think we need Will White. No matter how much he works or loves the club.

We shouldnt be wasting his time. EH or another tall in my opinion.
I tend to agree, there’s more of a need in the team for an EH type or Phillips imo.

We know there’s a fair way to go before a decision is made, but the thread asks the question “Will Elijah get another gig at Carlton?”

You’d expect an assessment would include a few key areas and include say:
1. Skill, talent.
2. Positional need in team.
3. Reliability, commitment.
4. Other?

EH easily outscores White in the first two areas, but has a bit of work to do in the third area. Regaining trust and maintaining it won’t be easy. But I think the club can manage/mitigate this risk with a short term contract and tight conditions.

So as reliable as White is, he seems more likely to be a depth player than a regular 23 player (with the influx of new players), and as far as needs go EH or even a Phillips would edge him out IMO.

The only way you could justify picking White is if he impressed so much he was either in or on the cusp of the 22. If hes 2-3 back as depth, we need depth much more in other positions.

Sad, but true.
After recruiting Ainsworth, Hayward, Byrne, plus re contracting the other Byrne and the fast finishing Frankie we are well stocked for small/medium forwards.

Probably don't even really need Eli, but with a great pre season, it would be difficult to ignore the silkyness if it's on display.

HOF did his knee on 3rd August.

Rightly or wrongly, the AFL treats the injury as a 12 month out injury.... maybe more for a scrawny kid.

August in 2026 is likely Rd 19 or 20....

Why risk him?

It's a tough one as he'll be desperate to get out on the field. But with list spots at an absolute premium it makes far more sense to get him ready for 2027. Let him bulk up in the gym and get super-fit.

They've tightened the rules, needs to be genuinely gone for the season.

In my view getting a fit and happy EH back on the list is like getting a free first round draft pick.

I heard other clubs were starting to sniff around which is a tad concerning.

Why is it concerning?

The decision to select Elijah or not sits with Carlton. If the club passes on him, then we really can’t feel hard done by or concerned if another club gives him a chance to play AFL.

If hes blitzing it and we drag a decision out till late Feb, there is a real chance someone else offers him a spot 1st. We'd have to be prepared to decide early in that case or let him go.

I think Elijahs debt to us would extend as far as letting us know and choosing a list spot with us if we were willing to offer it. It wouldn't extend as far as turning down a guaranteed opportunity for a maybe.
