If you believe all the media hype, Michael Voss is being seriously considered as a senior coach by perhaps multiple clubs. Personally, I think it's bollocks. Voss has never coached a game anywhere in his life and there seems to be a fairly broad concensus that a senior AFL coach these days needs some experience under his belt - more likely as an assistant AFL coach and perhaps as a senior coach at second tier level (WAFL, VFL, SANFL).

The football media seems to have a love affair with getting high-profile ex-players into senior coaching positions. Yet it should be pretty obvious that clubs are more likely to take someone who actually has some serious coaching credentials. The idea that clubs need a high profile coach to help "sell" their club is just media hype. Alistair Clarkson and Ross Lyon weren't high profile coaches when they got their respective jobs at Hawthorn and St. Kilda.

Clarkson and Lyon were two blokes who had done the hard yards in coaching, and Clarkson had even coached Central District to 2 premierships in the SANFL. With a seeming plethora of quality assistant coaches to choose from, I do not believe Voss will be anything more than an assistant next season. And yet if you believe the hype, Voss could be senior coach at Fremantle, Melbourne, Essendon, North or Carlton in '08.

And then there's the not-so-small matter of Voss facing a criminal assault charge...

Don't think it will be '08, but will almost definetly be '09.

Don't know if clubs would be willing to take him without being some sort of coach at another AFL club first.
