Apparantly MM has indicated one senior defender will be staying at the club next year and one will go.
Hypothetically if both Presti and Wakes want to go on what happens?
For mine if Wakelin wants to play on and told to retire by the club i would be absolutly disgusted! MM has stated age has nothing to do with whether a player gets a game but that form dictates who plays and who does not.

On form Wakelin has been in our top ten players all year rarely beaten, provides run and disposal is quite good on both sides, if he was say 28 or 29 yrs old there would be no issue here.
I get the feeling he wants to go on but not sure about the club, what does everyone think will happen?

is a sad choice.. but one the clubs needs to make...
the questions are who will be more likely to be able to handle the rigours of footy next,
whos best is better, whos worst is better, and at the end of the day it the coach himself will ask which of the two better suit my needs...

both have been great for our club.. but if i were up to me id choose presti.. this year was basically a rest for him and should extend his career for 2 more seasons.. either way whoever we keep it must be only one and not both..

I do see your point Spartan but Wakes was more important to us this year than we think and Presti for me is injured too often.
Funny thing is not once this year (that i remember) on this site or in the press have i seen Wakes critisized and called for to be gone at years end and at 34 he would be an easy target for bagging, for me just shows what a good year he has had.

I agree that if he was 28-29 there would be no issue, but he's not. He's 34 and Presti's 30. Whichever one stays we need them for one year minimum, 2 years max as support. I love Wakes and what he's done but I can't see him being physically capable of another full season.

i dont know what game you people watched last nigth but everytime kosi made a lead wakes was about 10 m behind him

Presti has great closin speed (20m sprints top 5 at club) and once fit will be a better option

wakes has served his time and has been great

No he hasn't.

He's been a good servant of the club, and I'm sure he's helped the young guys immensely in terms of professionalism etc but he's no longer good enough.

The time is right for Wakelin. He can go out with his head held high.

1 more year is too many. He got through this year and was a big help to players like Brown and co, but at times it looked like it took him an eternity to pick up the footy off the ground.

He may as well go out on top, and just seeing the way Wakelin handles himself you know he understands the club is bigger than him, and if Presti wants to stick around he will give him the chance and bow out gracefully.

so name the games where Wakes has been towelled up? he has been by far and away our best backman this year yes or no?

I think Wakes Retired by Himself

He hasn't really and it's a credit to him, but the time was probably right.

End of a great career and a 'great Collingwood Man' Wakes loves the club and has been fantastic with the other players coming through. Would love to see him get a role in either coaching or player development at the club.
