I wonder. We've heard nothing about him, all the talk has been about Hazell and Smith in the media.

What I have noticed is he has been in Glenelg's best EVERY week since moving over to them.

Surely we have to give him a senior spot next season.

What's the bet the new coach (if it isn't Craig) comes in, looks at his name and goes "2 years on the rookie list... cut him."

Broken record, but should've been promoted in the offseason.

He has to earn that spot. Last year, I would have given it to him automatically. This year... I'd like to wait and see.

He's done well for Glenelg in the month or so he has been there.

He has shown people at GFC he is a good SANFL player. However, we've already got plenty of those on the list.

What he has to do is show he can be a good AFL player.

Tiger fans, do you think he can take the next step?

He has two months to really show people he he is ready to play AFl footy. It's a good challenge for him, I hope he's up to it.

I think we DEFINITELY upgrade Parker. We could do it now and have a look at him before season's end. That way we'll know if he is worth keeping...
Smith is a dud, as is Dabrowski. Hazell may be okay. Andrews will be a STAR. He's very courageous, not afraid of the hard stuff like some ruckmen are.

I guess this is a question for the regular SANFL watchers.

Putting club allegiances aside, if you had to make a call between Smith and Parker to upgrade, who and why?

Having seen both this year (I've seen Parker twice) I'd say Parker. AP seems to be a bit smarter and quicker than Smith. Parkers form over the past two seasons has been more consitient.

Thanks for that.
Both players are still young, and Smith has "apparently" improved dramatically this year, do you think Parker has the biggest scope for improvement.

No use promoting them unless your goung to play them.

There's a limit to how many young players can be in the side at one time.

They're trying Rutten at FB,Mcgregor providing stability at CHB, both Smith and Parker play FB and CHB - no opening presently

Yes.

Looking more and more confident in the lineup eack week. Has taken time to adjust to the different style of play at the Bay (ala Footscray under Wallace).

imo, Would be even better with the Crows style of play than Glenelg's.

INteresting to read in today's tiser that the club is keen to have a look at Parker at AFL level so they make an informed decision on his future. Smith would also be in the running to get promoted but as was stated it would probably be smarter to upgrade Parker and see how he goes as we can't keep him on the rookie list any longer after this season.

Smith and Andrews on the other hand can still be rookie listed next year.

Hopefully Parker gets a chance he deserves and shows every one that he should have been promoted at the end of last year.

Here's the story.

Parker pushes for Crows promotion
By ANDREW CAPEL

ADELAIDE likes what it has seen from its young brigade in the past month.

Now it is contemplating taking a look at another young player it will have to make a tough call on at the end of the season – rookie-listed key defender Aidan Parker.
After an indifferent start to the season with South Adelaide, Parker has been in superb form since transferring to Glenelg six weeks ago.

And with the well-built, 193cm Western Australian unable to be recontracted as a rookie-list player next season – players can be kept on the rookie list for no more than two years – the Crows need to find out soon if he has what it takes to play big-time football.

"We have discussed it," Adelaide assistant coach Mark Mickan said.

"The reason we would bring up a rookie is because at the end of the year we have to make some decisions and if we've seen them at the level (AFL) then we can make an informed decision."

Mickan said Sturt's Matthew Smith, 21, and Norwood's Tim Hazell, 23, had also "put their hands up" for promotion from the rookie list. But 21-year-old Parker, who had 25 possessions and took nine marks for the Tigers on Saturday, appears to be ahead of them in the pecking order.

Adelaide, which claims it has the salary cap space to promote a rookie at the expense of a player on the long-term injured list, has, under AFL rules, until round 18 to make a decision. Two spots could be made available with Wayne Carey (neck), although he has retired, and Jacob Schuback (shoulder) ruled out for the season.

Despite losing to Sydney by 13 points at the SCG on Saturday night, Adelaide is satisfied with how its young players are progressing.

Michael Doughty, Ben Rutten, Brent Reilly and Nathan Bock were among its best players against the Swans and Mickan described the experience of performing away from home as "terrific".

"All those players came through it with flying colours and will be better for the experience," he said. "It showed that they are capable of standing up to some finals-like experience and pressure and they came away with their heads held high which has got to stand them in good stead for the future."

Others such as key forwards Luke Jericho, Fergus Watts and the more experienced Scott Stevens struggdhled with the tempo, managing just one possession between them in a combined 117 minutes. Mickan said fluctuations could be expected from young players. "We won't draw any major conclusions out of that because that will happen sometimes," he said. "The coaches will go through that with them and will analyse that. As long as we know why and the players know why they'll be better for it."

Mickan said the club was still trying to find the right balance between developing players for the future and winning games. "Just at the moment we are probably in the position where we would otherwise be forced into playing them (young players) anyway because of the injury situation," he said.

"But we've made a clear decision we're going to give them opportunities. We think there is a balance there but our main aim is to be competitive with young players so our expectation is that when they get selected, they perform.

"Performance is still the criteria for selection and the guys that are in the side at the moment deserve to be there because they've shown good form. We have expectations of winning still, even though we're playing younger players. We have made it very clear to them that winning is what is expected – that's the standard."

If they are going to do it then just do it now and get him in the team instead of leaving it too late. Put him in for the Fremantle game.

Just Do It

And who do you leave out??????

You can't play 4 key defenders just for the sake of playing them. We still need to keep the side reasonably balanced and not go overboard with KPPs.

Sensible comments from Rubbers.

I think it is time for Fergus and The Walls to play back at the SANFL.

Bring in Parker - maybe even play the Rutt forward and bring back in Hentschell and even possibly the Sarge Perrie.

Give the Sarge a go under the new coach. His form of late in the SANFL has been good and it may help his trade value to play some good footie at the next level. If this happens he could play up forward and release the Rutt to the back half where his form has been good.

Bode if fit should also return, given his good form before he was injured.

Lets hope we are a lttle more advenurous in our coaching this week. I thought we played safe footie last week and went for an acceptable draw.

There are some obvious candidates to be dropped. Watts is an obvious one. Jericho is probably another.

As Stiffy mentioned, its a question of team balance. Would like to see Rutten given more of a go at FB. If he starts to struggle, then we could give Parker a go. Alternatively if Hentschel doesn't come up, we could play Kenny at CHF & try Parker & Rutten in the key defensive posts. Very important that we try out some of these guys before making decisions on their futures at the end of the year.

... And I'd like to see us unleash Perrie on the ball a la Pavlich just to confuse the crap out of everyone - especially Sarge!
