Your analysis of Djoko's game is pretty accurate but look at he final at montreal. I fully expected him to cause huge problems for federer and he did and Fed was playing the best tennis he's played since melbourne.
It is Big 3 from now on and neither Fed or nadal will want to be bumping into him.
The inevitable is beginning to happen with Roger and his fall from No.1 is beginning. he is losing games he would have won 1 or 2 years ago and the aura of invincibility is slipping. He is still the best and most rounded player on tour but never again will he own 8,000 ranking points and i say that as a fan of his.
Nadal's caaim to an extended run at No.1 is compromised by his not being able heretofore to add a good July-Dec. to a good Jan.-June and that seems unchanged. in this scenario there is every reason to believe Djoko has a good shot at No.1 perhaps early in 2009 which is when i expect federer to lose the position. he isn't and won't be federer but even he can't be federer for years on end.
