Their GS H2H off clay is meaningless, mostly because of the many years Nadal never made it deep enough into tournaments for them to meet.

This is incredibly correct.Federer has effectively been punished for consistently making finals on his least favourite surface. He's then punished two-fold because Nadal hasn't been able to do the same. What would the H2H look like if Federer never made those finals at the French? What would the H2H look like if, in addition to that, Nadal could've made 3 or 4 more finals at the USO? It would be turned on its head.
So, in a hypothetical scenario where Federer is worse on clay and Nadal is slightly better on fast hard courts, the H2H is now probably in favour of Federer. Think about that. Federer benefits in the H2H despite being a worse player (than he is in reality) overall.
And yet people still carry on like H2H stats in tennis are the be-all and end-all. Incredible.

Not sure why she would play given that a 1st round loss was almost a certainty. I'm surprised she took it deep into the 3rd set. I wouldn't have thought she'd do that well.Sam stosur obviously doesnt agree with playing there......
