ha. Nole is finally on CC.

So happy for Julia. I didn't watch the 3rd set but I heard it was lights out tennis. Bout time the WTA had a new Semi finalist once again. I don't think she can beat Williams but you never know.

Giorgi just couldn't get a point against the serve on Williams.

Geech, the potential finals could be quality. Ostapenko, the girl who will smash Williams off the baseline, or Kerber, the girl who will force Williams to work and hit another ball over and over again.

I’m not sure Serena has the consistency in her game yet to go all the way.

Kerber is probably best equipped to capitalise on Serena’s lapses but if Serena can bring her best tennis of the tournament so far in the next two matches then 24 is hers to lose.

Neither Kerber or Ostapenko would be scared to beat Serena at least.

Rus, Tomova, Mladenovic, Rodina, Giorgi, Goerges.

Nice run to a WTA international final, oh wait it is Wimbledon....

Kerber has been frenetically hanging just outside the top 10 for most of the season, due a result which will launch her well within to a ranking of her quality. She'd be my favourite for now.

I wonder if Ostapenko can replicate Stan's "5 slams later..." thingy.

Any which way, we have 4 great stories among the women.

Isner making the men's semis is a bit ugh, but otherwise the men's is juicy if a bit same olds.

Wimbledon first-round men's doubles tennis clash reported over match-fixing suspicions

BY JACK KERR UPDATED 27 MINUTES AGO

A men's doubles match at Wimbledon has been reported to gaming and tennis authorities as suspicious after an "out of the ordinary" late shift in odds, the ABC can reveal.

International bookmaker Pinnacle Sports has confirmed the first-round match was "flagged as suspicious due to irregular betting patterns".

Pinnacle's sports integrity manager Sam Gomersall said the company noticed "a series of bets from accounts with a history of wagering on suspicious matches", which were placed in the hour before the match began.

This helped create a late shift in odds, which Mr Gomersall said was "another clear indication" of suspicious activity.

"We would anticipate some minor odds movement in any tennis match," he said.

"But the odds movement … just under an hour before it was due to start is certainly out of the ordinary.

"We followed our strict protocol when it comes [to] match-fixing alerts by notifying the authorities on site at Wimbledon and reducing our market offering immediately."

Some of the players involved in the match are ranked in the singles top 100.

ABC cannot identify the match for legal reasons, but has made efforts to contact the relevant players.

Another industry insider, who said he also flagged the match with authorities but did not want to be named, said the game attracted significant interest on betting markets.

However, the ABC is not aware of any bookmakers closing their books on this match, and a tennis betting analyst says the match did not attract suspicions with eastern European bookmakers.

The Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) would not comment on whether the match was under investigation.

"The TIU has become more transparent, hence our publication of [quarterly] match alert data, but that is also balanced against the need for operational confidentiality, as in this matter," a TIU spokesperson said.

The ABC has also contacted Wimbledon, the UK Gambling Commission and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for comment.

Mr Gomersall said Pinnacle Sports was "committed to doing what we can to reduce the number of fixed matches in all sports".

"We will continue to work closely with local police forces and other similar organisations to assist the great work they are doing to combat match fixing in tennis."

They wouldn’t be scared no, but Serena would probably find another gear against a Slam winner. I think her semi final will be tougher for her than the final should she make it.

I doubt that. She has lost to kerber in a slam final before and ostapenko is a slam winner herself and can outhit serena. The occasion will get to georges.

Yeah but Kerber played exceptional tennis to beat Serena. Her greatest challenge in grand slams has always been overcoming the less-fancied underdog who in theory shouldn’t trouble her. It’s happened over and over. She rises to the occasion against the better opponents

Ostapenko reminds me of davenport, easy power and times the ball superbly. Imo is more of a danger than kerber if and only if she plays lights out tennis which she is certainly capable of. Serena will be flat out trying to get balls back in that case.

Ostapenko looked good last night.

I really can't see which way the final will go if Williams makes it. The old adage is that if Williams plays her best, she will win. (ps i disagree with that now, Muguruza's best is untouchable). That will be true for Julia and Kerber. But Ostapenko is something different. So young and with unmatched power. I don't think she will do a Muguruza and dominate from the off. Ostapenko will be up and down but if she is up on the big points like against Cibulkova, then you can't do anything because she just smashes the ball.

And then, if she isn't at her best, Kerber is in with a massive chance. Kerber is consistently very good.

To beat Ostapenko, Serena will have to serve very well, to keep Ostapenko away from any chance to smash it ala, Venus to Alona last year. To beat Kerber, she will have to return very well and smash that 2nd serve every single time.

so which MD is the culprit? http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/draws/index.html?event=MD

#1 seeds?
22-20 match?
one of the retirements?
one of the triple tie-breakers?

Fixing a 22-20 match sounds like a lot of effort.

Marrero/Verdasco opened $1.48 and started $2.38.

Match includes "some top 100 players" as per the news articles.

One of them has form.

The other match that would be suspicious based on betting patterns would be this other one.

Berrettini and Marterer drifted from $2.62 to $3.73 in one opening fluc which is a big jump.
