Windows 7

Build 7260 is out, but only VHD at the moment. Trying to get my hands on the ISO. I recommend Windows 7 and I have never been a fan of Windows, but I must admit Microsoft have try to listen to the end users and have made a very good effort with Windows 7.

Just got the tap on the shoulder:

"This pre-release version of Windows 7 Ultimate will expire in 2 days"

Beta version build 7000 starts its bi-hourly restarts from July 1, then stops working altogether from August. Gee it's come around fast, I did the install last Xmas.
Currently downloading the official RC from MS, should keep me going until March :thumbsu:

Just installed Windows 7 Build 7264 64 bit, and it rocks. I would guess that this is getting very close to the final release of Windows 7. Haven't had any problems with drivers, hardware etc. If any of you are going to download this build be aware that you can't activate it with the old keys. There is a activation work around for it though.

I would say it is similar to Vista, but it is streamlined. Much faster, not many bugs and Microsoft seem to be actually trying to listen to the customers. I must admit I have been pleasantly surprised by Windows 7.

well a better 'vista' is a good thing. shame they havent added more graphical beauty to it like macs have. but a step in the right direction.

The best thing they have done is in the performance and stability. Flashy graphics can come later.

Yeah agree Anthony, it is very stable and like I said a lot faster as well. And the 7264 build is very good, I think they are very close to a final release of Windows 7. Wouldn't surprise me if it's in the next few months?

Well that's good at least. What I'll do is wait for it's release where you can buy new laptops with pre-installed Windows 7 on it, rather than buy it as a software disc. Will be better laptop specs/prices then too compared to what i have now.

I will buy it online, you can get all sorts of software legally online significantly cheaper then RRP.

I bought my XP pro a couple of years ago for $40 online and it has worked fine, it activated online perfectly until I had used up all my online activations (happens with all versions when you format regularly). The last few times I have formatted I had to call microsoft and do the activation over the phone and that all worked fine so the XP is definitely legit.

I bought 2 copies for work computers that we 'upgraded' from Vista to XP and they cost less than $50 for both combined including shipping.

Hmm. Well that does sound good too. Probably smarter to spend $40-50. Than $500 on a full copy or go and buy a whole new laptop.
Tho, im sure the online prices for the brand new release of Windows 7 will not be so cheap. Cos you bought your XP versions several years after XP was released, im guessing.

Where exactly online would you go to buy Windows 7 online? Microsoft itself, or?

I have used a few different sources.

dhgate.com is a chinese wholesaling site, I have noticed though recently that you'll struggle to find a single item for sale though, it will almost certainly be at least 2 you would be buying (still a good deal when you get 2 copies for $30 including shipping)

Another is http://borninataxi.net/, they do downloadable versions (you download the installer but you're still buying the product key.) THey have

Photoshop CS4 Extended for USD$99

Vista Ultimate USD$79.95

DHGate
Photoshop CS4 Extended for USD$25 (including shipping)

Vista Ultimate about USD$59 (for 5 copies)

If you have more than 3.5 gigs of RAM, then 64 bit should be a no brainer to utilise what you paid for.
But the problem with 64 bit is that there are some programs/games that cant run on it. Not sure if they have changed that with windows 7 but it put me off getting 64 bit vista.

atm i have dual boot with vista and windows 7. I like how windows 7 loads faster and it looks a bit neater.

Microsoft Australia have also released details of the upgrade scheme.

Basically whatever version of Vista you buy now will get you the equivilent version of Windows 7 for the cost of postage.

Windows 7 7600 is released, rumors are this is the final RC.

Downloading it right now :p:p:p

So far W7 has been fantastic for me and with the latest RC releases I have had no probs at all; can't wait for the full release...might actually pay for this one ;).

I'm still trying to get use to turning on my PC and know it's going to be loaded in seconds.....gotta love it :thumbsu:

Must admit I have to be a bit carefull with the Mac lovers about it though....god they are touchy

I'm having a few problems trying to get build 7600 to install; can it be upgraded or is it a clean install anyone having the same probs??

If anyone can send me a bitorrent link to a proper 7600 build that would be great :thumbsu:
