Analysis Wing Attendance Megathread 2023

Interesting that Sharp was only 52% time on ground - was he taken off at 3qt or earlier?

Because if 3qt even if he someone played the entire last quarter would only get him to 77% which isn't that high given his much spoken-about tank...

He's still only our 3rd best winger so we're not going to give him extra time just because he's fit

Harry came off at 3/4 time. Harry and any Lions midfielder for that matter don't play 100% TOG.
At his 52% rate to 3/4 time, he would have got to around 70% if he was not subbed.
His previous 2 games were 73% & 78%.

Will be interesting to see if he holds his spot.
I would like to see him get another game as he has shown much more this year then when he previously got a call up.

May depend on if Rich gets up for this game.
I think I would probably hold him off until after the bye and give Harry another game.
Long wings in Adelaide.

I'm intrigued we tend to make our sub, when unforced, either at 3 quarter time or even waiting till the last quarter.

I'd have thought it makes more sense to make the sub at say the 20 minute mark of the third quarter. You get that double whammy of a 10 minute burst to the the third, then a 6 minute break, then a full quarter.

Perhaps Fages thinks he needs to talk to blokes before dragging them/ Half joking.

Kayo doing that weird thing where they don't provide any highlight or start of quarter tags for their full replay of this game so had to manually flick through the game which is fun.

Our 3 main wingers in terms of possessions: Berry 11, Wilmot 12, McCluggage16 (who spent rest of his time on ball).

Not enough is it.

Need to figure out how to get the most out of our wingers. They have become a weakness overall.

McCluggage / Berry would be my main 2, Ah Chee the third. McCluggage can ball hunt and be the inside 50 kick, the others are the more accountable players who do the gut running and cover.

Its been a weakness for a couple of years and I'm still not sure if its a game plan or what. Every time I've watched live I've seen us ignore leads by the wingers repeatedly. Either we don't trust the kick to them, the winger to mark it or something else.

I think Jaspa Fletcher and Harry Sharp are the 2 the club are hoping really come on as wingers, I did like the glimpses/improvement Sharp showed in his 3 games this season, Fletcher probably not ready for seniors until 2024.

The last time McCluggage had more than 13 wing attendances was v Demons (17) when Berry went into the midfield.
Demons game: McCluggage 17, Ashcroft 16, Wilmot 12, Zorko 7, Bailey 6, Gunston 4
Crows Game: Berry 17, Wilmot 17, McCluggage 13, Bailey 4, Gunston 3, Zorko 2.
So will include McCluggage this week even though he had 7 CBA's.

Berry 74% TOG, 11 Disposals @54%, 2 Marks, 3 Tackles.
Wilmot 70% TOG, 12 Disposals @ 41%, 2 Marks, 2 Tackles.
McCluggage 81 % TOG, 16 disposals @ 62%, 0 Marks, 3 Tackles. However, he did have 7 CBA's.

CBS?

Fixed
That was my first post since i contacted covid on the 23rd May
Hopefully the rest of the post is correct
All good, wasn't sure if it was a typo or some newfangled stat I was yet to come across. Hope you're feeling better 🙂

Yes, just a typo or brain fade.
However, it would not surprise me if CBS's were a stat somewhere.
Maybe an umpire one: Center Bounce Stuff-ups.

Feeling better except for extreme tiredness.

Interesting that Robertson had 14 of his 19 disposals playing mostly wing in the first 2 quarters.

Is there a possibility that he was getting drawn into the play (and racking them up) instead of keeping some width? Or maybe they were playing through his wing.

Can't answer that as you would have to be watching him live at the MCG to form an opinion.

I was there and hawks were definitely going the majority to one side out of defence. Would then go inboard and break free through corridor. Especially went to Berrys side, which the heat map shows with his possesions mainly on the back flank.
