I am reading reports that Wojcinski looks like being the one to make way for Chapman

He is not as polished as some of his teammates but I have always thought we need this type of player at Carlton. A dashing half back that can kick goals. I rate his disposal a 7 out of 10; better than most in our starting 22

Would be interested to know what his contract status is

Man, do we need a thread on every single player that is out of contract or rumored to be leaving their club would fit in well at Carlton?

Pass.

He's fast, that's about it. Disposal is fairly ordinary.

He's also going to be 29 next season. There would be no reason for recruiting him, and I'd much rather continue with the development of our kids through the middle of the ground.

At that age, it's a definite pass.

It would have to be wojcinski or kelly to make way.
Wokincski is a dud imo and everytime i see him play i wonder how he gets a game for such a good side.

If you're looking at midfielders to poache from them, I'd go for James Kelly
It sounds good but I wouldn't give up pick 6 for him and I'm not sure pick 24 would be enough.
If Wojo is out of contract then I very much like the idea of getting him in the PSD. Of course, it is an if though.

Isn't he pretty much just a guy that runs off the cat's half backline? Surely we have guys in our team that can already do that, Waite, Houlihan, Bower ...

I reckon pick 24 would be thereabouts for Kelly. He's not an integral part of the side - more a peripheral player. Like most players in a premier team, he's overrated by those outside the club, but IMO he's made to look better than he is by the quality of players around him.

While players like Ablett, Bartel, Corey and Selwood are ahead of him at the moment, I remember his 1st year (2002) and it was excellent, even better than Bartel's and you could say Ablett's as well. It would probably be to do with the fact that these guys have taken their game to a new level and all 4 are genuine stars of the competition. During this time of year you can only fantasize as trade time is always the most difficult and unpredictable time of the year, but if he was to come to Carlton he will add some more class to the midfield.

I'd like him at the club, without doubt. His first year was good, though it wasn't spectacular. Having a better first season than Bartel/Ablett isn't much of an achievement, it must be said, as both took a few years to get going.

Would trade pick 24 for him, but no more.

Exactly what I have been thinking. IIRC, Collingwood made a massive play for him the last time he was out of contract.

Kelly was one of the first to extend his contract during the year and from all reports at not too high a price.
Has improved during the year and will not be likely considered for trade.
If the cats do lose players, look for the fringe players, the 29+ yos, N Abblett of course, possibly one of Byrnes or Varcoe as little Matty Stokes has really developed nicely and looks a high class player filling one of the small fwd roles.

Kelly on small money would be part of their long term plans

Maybe Kelly can be our Hadley in the '08 trade week !!!

I'm still waiting for the Nathan Thompson thread... Or did I miss it already?
