Sam Butler seemed poised to take some of that heat. Where's he at with his footy?
He's really just getting back to consistent playing time. We rate him very highly and we tried to get him in and going earlier this year and he probably hadn't really hit his straps at that stage. You can get found out at AFL level, so he's working back to his full playing potential and I think he'll be a good AFL player.

That bit is for those wanting Butler gone.

good article but pretty much what he has been stressing all year, typical Woosha gives nothing away!

Woosha's greatest assets when he was playing are still his greatest assets now.

He lead from the front by playing on the toughest opponents.
He took all they could throw at him and was able to keep his composure and remain focused.
His team mates gained confidence from his leadership and developed great resolve.

John's opponents include the media nowadays but not once has he let one of his charges down, he defends them like he always has, it's the Woosha way. :thumbsu:

Our young players will keep following Woosh into battle and I'm sure he will develop the team into getting the best possible football out of themselves and hopefully that will be another flag about 2012.

Not really. Maybe with Fletcher or Hansen who are past it he may have, but not with a young player who isn't yet on the chopping block. He's not going to do anything else but back him in. If he doesn't back him in it's a vote of no confidence.

This is exactly right. Anybody can implement tactics or make changes or whatever... but you can't manufacture leadership. One of, if not the key reason in a players development, maturing proccess.

I remember when he was first appointed, Fremantle clearly had the better list... yet our team developed the heart and will to win it all. Same thing will happen again. Worsfold's 'arrogance' or whatever you want to call it, is exactly what you need heading up a club like West Coast, which prides itself on being a powerhouse of the competition.

Tactical coaches aren't worth **** AFAIC. Wallace, Connolly, Eade, Laidley... how many flags?

Will be lucky to get a game going forward. If not this year then soon.
Mate, you clearly have a pre-disposition towards Butler, and quite frankly, it makes you look like a bitter troll.
We get that you don't rate him. You add nothing to this conversation. Until you actually back up why you don't rate him with some evidence and reasoning, please refrain from posting on the subject.

Righto, so you've just restated your position, so I'll restate mine.

Like I said before, Worsfold didn't have to say "we rate him highly" and "He'll be a good player".

He could've said "We're confident he'll progress" and "He's working hard to improve" etc. etc if he thought Butler was crap.

That still would've been fine, nobody would've bagged Butler or Worsfold if he'd said that but he chose to say he rates Butler.

I see. So anyone who doesn't rate a player or coach or coaching staff etc is a troll and shouldn't be allowed to post? Not only a pathetic post by yourself, but as if you have never bagged a chad fletcher, broadbridge, trent carroll etc. Did you just not think that post through? Or do you actually think you're the God who determines what is ok and what is not?

Actually, I'll restate your position:

"ha ha! Look, Woosh said he rates him therefore Butler must be a gun!"

Don't forget he rated Hansen enough to give him a 3 year contract when it was pretty obvious he was a donkey. I think you should save this until Butler's footy does some talking.

You know what, getting really immature when you haven't got a leg to stand on is becoming a pretty common theme for you.

My stance
Just because Woosh said he rates Butler very highly doesn't necessarily mean he's not exagerating the truth, or that Butler is in fact a gun

Your stance:
Woosh said he's a gun, therefore he is a gun even though he is yet to prove it on the field.

What is your opinion of Butler BB?

I think we should absolutely give the guy as many chances as it takes. I rate him as a solid B grader that we need to fill the lack of 22yr old midfield talent we have for at least the next 3-4 years. If he can deliver more then that I would be happy but I still think he is a required player going forward.

Hence my Back Pockets thread in which I mentioned Butler as an option to turn into a BP instead of discarding him.
IMO, it's unlikely that Butler will get a run in our midfield this year, which is full of up and comers. Butler needs to be able to slot into a HBF, HFF or BP role for the time being, if he's going to get any game time at all.
Even if his WAFL form warrants being selected as a midfielder, it'll be hard to drop an 18-20 year old midfielder who is doing what's expected of them, and that's getting game time, learning the ropes and giving their best. That may not be the current situation of all our youngsters but it seems we'll persist with them this year. We also don't know how next year will pan out yet in regards to Butler vs the youngsters. So there's still hope for Butler.

Butler needs extra strings to his bow. He's too good to throw away when fit and firing, but he may be in the wrong place at the wrong time because we have a lot of potential mids getting their run right now, and may have a couple of new top line mids vying for the same role as he. His time is running out, he needs to act quickly so as to not be surpassed and made redundant by the next lot of youngsters coming through.

Undecided as of yet. let towards him not making it, but if our young guys step up there will be other players who step up as well. Very hard for anyone to play good footy in our team at the moment.

Be nice if you could argue against someone else's opinion without misrepresenting it - or maybe you could show me the post where jimmy said Butler was a gun.

I also would have thought an intelligent poster like yourself would be above changing a poster's name when quoting him.

That's more or less what he said. I don't have an issue if someone thinks he will step up, just a bit early to call it.

Bullshit.

He was merely highlighting the assumption that Woosha is a big fan of Butler judging by his comments. He never said he was a gun.

For the record, I'm not a Butler fan either.

However, he's still young and to discard him now is premature.

Unlikely. He made reference to others who wanted him gone or think he's a hack. He's made reference to other discussions he's had. Those discussions weren't whether or not Woosh rates him or not, rather whether he should be retained. I've never heard a discussion on here on what the coach thinks of a player. Heard plenty on what each individual thinks though.
