I would agree with that sentiment but they don't seem to be put in the best position to succeed in the WAFL. For example, Swift plays much more outside than his strengths would dictate, but that's what's best for Claremont.

Is it not possible that WCE asked Claremont to play Swift as an outside player to improve that aspect of his game? I would love to see him have a more rounded/flexible game where he can switch from being the extractor to that of a reciver/finisher?

Given the investment that WCE have in the players that play in WAFL I would find it incredible if they did not possess some sort of influence in match day decisions.

They have a set of instructions they are currently getting him, with Claremont's assistance, to follow, so yes is the answer to both your questions.

When arguing in favour of a West Coast WAFL team, it was either Woosha or Suma who said that Claremont were playing Swift out-of-position. I can't find a link to it at the moment but I swear I read it somewhere.

I am genuinly unaware as to the political workings between WAFL clubs and WCE but I do not find it inconcivable that there may be some sort of acrimony from time to time between the two.

Mitchell does everything Priddis does but with with a far more damaging leg, he's also far better on his non preferred (Priddus doesn't have a right foot if your one eye hadn't noticed). He won a rising star in 03, came third in the brownlow in 07 and has won a club champion award.

Seriously Priddis is good at what he does but what he does is very limited.

Mitchell does have a better non-preferred than Priddis - but he opts to use it far too often. He had the worst efficiency with his non-preferred boot last year - less than 50% - twas the worst in the league.

There was a big write up about it a number of months ago.

He grew up a lefty but switched to his right, his DE might be down but thats because he uses it when he has to, of course your DE is lower when you use it more.

Priddis's right foot is non - existent, he either sells a dummy that occasionally comes off or gets caught.

Priddis quite comfortably stepped around multiple players just last week. He sure as hell doesn't have a right but the majority of his work is handball inside anyway.

Given the choice I would probably choose Mitchell but we are talking about bugger all difference really.

So he was forced to kick on his non-preferred 13 times out of 18. That's more than one - and the efficiency is terrible

Oh and the 'old school' types would be the vast majority of coaches. If you have the opportunity to use your best foot - use it.

That was one game, have you even watched the game in question?

There are no coaches named, just generalizations made by an average journo writing a filler piece.

He's more than likely leading our B&F & amongst the leaders in many media awards.

As to your other comments, well our team has improved & Priddis is yet to usurped.

Damon, I like a man who is addicted to stats, but if this was all about stats then Priddis would be Top 5 in the league. It isn't though is it and he isn't though is he.

I mean one of the joke stats thrown out by Rids earlier was that Priddis' stats against are great and that he is therefore a good defensive player (or better than Mitchell) - thats just a croc unless you are seriously in some sort of altered state of reality...

Stats are useful but they don't tell the whole story. I have always felt it interesting that Priddis' votes tend to improve in our votes thread as the week goes on. You'll get comments from those at games that "meh, he didn't do much or didn't impact the result much.." and then a day or 3 later people will say things like "but wow, look at his contested possessions or his tackles" ...

Peter Matera was clearly best on ground in a grand final and won a Norm Smith medal - he had 18 disposals. He also likely had buggar all tackles and his "tagger" had 24 or so possessions...

Its not all about stats, its about influence on the result.

Sam Mitchell is a much better player than Matt Priddis because he influences the result more, because he plays inside and outside and because he hurts teams with his disposal going forward. He has more vision and creativity in his left butt cheek than Priddis...

But, statistically, Priddis is awesome ... always has been ..

He owns the worst 40 (45 in fact) possession game in AFL history. Against Hawthorn oddly enough.

Priddis is a decent enough role player, Mitchell is a very very good player who at times is and has been elite.

Mate, Priddis hits a target and people can remember it. Its like when John Lennon was shot, people remember where they were when they heard it.

He is playing in a better side, with better players and, unremarkably, he is hitting the odd target more than previously. Hurt factor wise, he remains a remarkably non-damaging player given the volume of ball he gets. At best he ****s up less, which is a good thing but the next creative handball that makes you go "wow" will be the first and the mere proper execution of a 30m pass to a bloke in space should hardly be greeted by applause - which in Pridda's case it still is.

You seem to struggle to differentiate between what my actual criticism of Priddis is from "E87 hates Priddis". I don't hate Ben McKinley but I identified pretty early that he wasn't an AFL footballer. Same with Beau Wilkes. Similarly, I can identify a role player, a rotation player from a top line mid....

And that's why as far as stats go, the CDPR is probably the best measure of a player's impact on the game, because its main aim (considering all the factors that it takes in and the various weightings it affords to different acts) is to measure how influential a player is on the result, not just how many kicks or tackles they rack up. That being said, stats are obviously not everything, and should mainly be used to confirm/refute ideas/theories about a player's game, not judge them solely on it.

True Priddis has improved immensely but he lacks the class, skill and vision of Mitchell.

I'm a huge Priddis lover but for people to think he's a better player overall than Mitchell is laughable.
