Test

G. Smith (SA)
V. Sehwag (IND)
G. Gambhir (IND)
S. Tendulker (IND)
M. Jayawardene (SL)
J. Kallis (SA)
K. Sangakkara (SL)
D. Steyn (SA)
H. Singh (IND)
Z. Khan (IND)
B. Hilfenhaus (AUS)

One Day

V. Sehwag (IND)
C. Gayle (WI)
T. Dilshan (SL)
K. Sangakkara (SL)
AB. DeVilliers (SA)
C. White (AUS)
S. Al-Hasan (BAN)
D. Vettori (NZ)
M. Johnson (AUS)
D. Steyn (SA)
S. Malinga (SL)

A couple of very handy sides, with not too many Aussies included.

Would be happy for Johnson to be replaced in the one-day line-up on current form, however think he's still up there, just not consistent enough for Test cricket... at his best could replace Zaheer in the test team.

I initially had Dhoni in the one-day team as well, however went with Al-Hasan as the all-rounder. Could understand people including someone else here but his form has been excellent of late.

Also no poms! Swann would be unlucky to miss out on the test team but Singh is my man... Vettori is a certainty for the one-day spinners spot...

Thoughts???

If you do it by the numbers (assuming you have 5 bats, 1 AR, 1 keeper and 4 bowlers), the teams would be.....

Amla should be in for Gambhir in tests, seeing as he actually bats 3 and Gambhir doesn't. And then Amla in for Dilshan in the ODI squad. I'd go for Swann over Harbajhan and wouldn't have Steyn in the ODI squad as he tends to get smashed.

The tail in your test team is awful batting wise

My test team would prob be

G. Smith
V. Sehwag
H. Amla
S. Tendulkar
M. Jayawardene
VVS Laxman
K. Sangakkara
G. Swann
Z. Khan
J. Anderson
D. Steyn

The wicketkeeper position is a tricky one for the test side.
Not close to teh best batsman going around, but how about Jayawardene (the keeper) from Sri Lanka? Last I checked, he was by a mile the best wicketkeeper in the world, especially to the spinners.
Averages 30 with the bat as well, fair effort.

Sangakkarra dosent keep anymore in Test matches so thats worth keeping in mind when picking your sides.

Gotta have De Villiers in your side in my opinion. That guy is just a freak at life. :thumbsu:

Current best world XI

Hows this?

V. Shewag
G. Smith* (Cook not yet, Gayle too inconsistent, Struass a contender)
K. Sangakara
S. Tendulkar
J. Kallis
K. Pieterson (mainly based on talent rather than this years performance)
M. Prior / B. Haddin (Boucher contender also). Not sure on this one. Help?
G. Swann
D. Steyn
I. Sharma
M. Asif / M. Amir (forgetting about the scandals)

Telling there's only 1 Aus and its not a clear selection. 2-3 Englishmen. A few years ago half the side would be Australian. The worm has turned.

Re: Current best world XI

Re: Current best world XI

If I could pick one international batsman to put into our side right now it would be de Villiers. Magnificent player.

I'd go Jacques Kallis everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

Re: Current best world XI

What would be more revealing would be a combined England-Australia side.

Even in 2005 you'd have been hard pressed to put more English in than Aussies.

Now it'd be a very different story.

Based on Ashes form...

Strauss
Cook
Trott
Pieterson
Hussey
Bell
Haddin
Swann
Siddle
Finn
Anderson

Ouch! For a long time you'd have been lucky to get one Englishman in the combined eleven. Now there are eight to Australia's three.

Re: Current best world XI

I think Sanga prefers not to keep in tests, as he focuses on batting and is arguably the best in the world. So I've gone a specialist keeper, but not sure who the best is at the moment as theres a lot of good keeper batsmen. I missed Dhoni, and probably wrong about Sharma. Anderson could get a run as a specialist swing bowler. De Villiers and Amla young guns that have just established so I overlooked them, but could be included.

Broad has bowled better than Finn overall I reckon and is a better bowler altogether.
