Our defenders were crook as dogs.
To be fair, Richmond probably peaked too early in 2018. There was a game during the home and away rounds, I think it was round 23 vs the Western Bulldogs (MCG), Richmond won by 3 points but to me they looked off, they didn't look right. The week prior (round 22) against Essendon the Tigers won by 8 points (MCG). I believe Richmond sort of limped to the Finals of that year, thier run and momentum had ended. They beat Hawthorn by 31 points in the Qualifying Final (Hawks ended up doing a straight sets exit).
Then Richmond came up against Collingwood in the Preliminary Final. A virus did go through the club at Richmond, that didn't help Richmond's cause at all but by then the Tigers were cooked, Collingwood weren't cooked, they were firing and playing good footy at the right time. Richmond lost, the Pies advanced to the Grand Final and thats all there is to it.
However, Richmond didn't make the same mistake again, they peaked when it mattered most in a season (Finals footy) in 2019 and 2020 resulting in back-to-back Premierships (to go with the 2017 Premiership).
