Would you be happy if Richmond tanked it for 2 years and got some good drafts to cover some positions that we need to cover? I would see us take 2 years longer before being a premiership team than to Saint Kilda. They don't have anyone to cover Gehrig and Hamill when they retire; and will drop off after that and just have a good team with a lot of good players but won’t win a premiership. if Richmond do this than it will be another 25 years before we win a premiership. The only time i can see this not helping us is if Moore, McGuane and Thursfeild can hold down the tall back positions. Reiwoldt, Hughes, Schulz can be our tall forwards and Pattison can become a great Ruck.

Truth be told the saints have played without Hamil for the better part of 3 years. He is done. As for Gehrig i think Kosi could become a very dominate forward if he can stay on the park and they have fergus watts in the wings.

As for us tanking I'm indifferent to it. I can see the positives, 3 top 3 picks, but it would be so depressing. I would lose a lot of interest in football.

But I would have to accept it. We would get pick 1, 17 and 19 this year, then picks 1, 2, 17 next year.

That is 3 star players, 2 very good players and probably 1 dud.

In 2011 I would be happy if it happened but I really don't want to see us tank for 2 more years. If it were "necessary" to tank then would you do it? Would you rather finals but not a threat like St Kilda? I don't know. Maybe we could be a good team for 10 years and then we'd at least have the winning culture to have a chance...

At the start of the year, l said that we would need to go backward before we could go forward - l know thats hard to take as a Richmond supporter - but since we finished last, we progressed far too quickly.

In saying that, l didnt expect us to finish last this year. We have been toilet so far this year and showed some serious deficiencies. I think if we were to pick up selections 1, 17 and 18 at this years draft, we would have had enough selections over the past 3 years to suggest that we would move significantly next year.

Whilst l dont want a wooden spoon, l would encourage supporters to realise that we dont really have the list yet to make finals and therefore outside of the 8, where is the best place to finish?

Blind Freddy could realise that were going to go backwards this year, l think we're all just a little surprised by how much.

When was the last time West Coast tanked themselves a spoon? They picked up Judd from pick #3 and Daniel Kerr at pick #18. Adam Goodes was picked up by the Swans at pick #43. James Hird was pick #79.

You don't win a premiership by tanking seasons and picking the #1 draftee - you win it by building a good list, having superior coaching staff and having a bit of luck.

We'll get there again - believe it. It's not going to be 2007, but we will get there again. The competition is swings and roundabouts these days, I mean how many people in the 80s and 90s would have sat there and said "in 2006, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs are both going to be power teams".

It's no longer about who has the most money (thankfully) and it's definately not about tanking seasons.

If we were to tank years 1 and 2 would have been the go. While tanking might be the way to get the good picks, I'd still be horrified if we ever went down that path.

Key here is we would play four years of pretty average footy, waiting for these players to be set. Same thing happened to St Kilda, didn't start to click until 2-2 1/2 gears after Reiwoldt & Kosi were drafted.

the last number 1 pick in a draft to play in a winning premiership was Des Headland from 1998 draft and the lions won 2001-3, so that was 3 years, but the lions were helped considerably by the merger.

the next number 1 pick to play in a premiership was Michael Gardiner from 1996 draft and they won in 2006 now thats 10 year.

but then again we have been waiting for 27 years whats another few years going to do, its going to kill us thats what it'll do. we need results, finals first the grandfinals
