Imagine for a moment that you are responsible for list management at the PAFC. A call comes through from GWS and they offer you pick 1 (ie. Tom Boyd) for Hamish Hartlett. You are employed to do what is best for the PAFC, do you do this deal??

Would not trade a leader and key member of our playing group if it means compromising our club ethos and player culture, which it almost certainly would be.

Ugh. One of the toughest hypotheticals I've seen on here.

If this was AFL Live on the Xbox or the game was played by robots I'd probably say yes, but in the real world I'm leaning towards no. I feel like trading a potential elite midfielder who we've been developing for 5 years and who's finally getting his body right for the first time out for magic beans (admittedly very enticing magic beans) wouldn't do wonders for morale at the club. Not to mention the enormous pressure, both internal and external, that this would place on Boyd. Imagine if we made the trade and Boyd turns out to be a bust? We'd have essentially given away Hamish Hartlett for nothing. I get the whole 'give quality to get quality' thing, but unless it's a surplus to requirements player or the club is heading into a rebuild (whereas we're ****ing finally heading out of one) I don't like giving up quality to get draft picks who are nothing but potential.

I'd rather keep Hammer and back the highly talented John Butcher and Mason Shaw in to form a cohesive unit as the club's future key forwards. If we could pick up Mitch Thorp with a late pick, that'd also be handy.

This probably our last chance to get a number one draft pick, especially since we need a big dominate tall forward and Boyd looks to be the next Tony Lockett, its definitely worth considering.
Butcher will be ok under KH and Mason Shaw is going to be something special, i don't know why i just have a good feeling about this guy.

Agreed, the longer we can keep this group together the better and i can see some real A graders to be on our list.

Why don't we ask someone smart to answer this question, like a pussy cat:

Couldn't have summed it up any better.

Also shown in the past a lot of players that bond together play better together. That's why its important we keep our core group of players together.

I dont disagree with you they could be stars under Hinkley who knows. Just Boyd looks to a 1 in 10 years type of player.

and yeah I also think though Mason Shaw could be something special

I dont know. ..probably wouldnt trade him for an unknown....

I like Hartlett he makes me laugh...with his arrgance an attitude do anyway...and if or when he reaches elite his arrogance towards opposition numpties will be a site to be hold....

I'm not saying it's not tempting but we have too much time invested in Hartlett and this group work so well together, when Hamish hits his straps, look out.
